Hello, does anyone know how to adjust the pu on a 1970 msa classic? I know that they cannot be removed easily, but can they not be adjusted either? If you can't do it easily than its not a big deal but I wold like to adjust the height alittle.
Thanks, Jordan

P.S I don't know if it matters but the guitar I have was one of the ones that had a white pickup cover on it.

No, there isnt any. And if there is them it is covered up by the fretboard. I've looked everywhere Lane and can't seem to find anything besides the 2 screws between the pu and changer. I'll try to post a picture tomorrow if it doesn't get resolved tomorrow, Thanks Lane

Must be one of the mica guitars. I'm not sure how to adjust them.

The early 70s MSAs I had used two 4-40 screws that screwed into the pickups from underneath the guitar. There were springs under the pickups to hold the pickups up. Look at the bottom of the guitar, directly under the pickups.

Jim is right. Turn the guitar upside down and look for the two small screw heads. These will move the pick up up and down with respect to the side that you are turning.

Thanks

The early (Classic) MSA pickup is adjusted with two small slotted screws that are set in counterbores on the underside of the guitar. They are easily identified because the screws and washers were gold colored (cad plated).

Well I have a 70's vintage MSA D 10, so my question is what will adjusting the P/U do. Moving it closer to the strings affect tone, etc? This is a great steel by the way (imho).

Generally tone improves as distance increases, and steel pickups have so much winding that they'll saturate if they're too close. Output can drop, but I'm not convinced that's a problem. Somewhere around 3 stacked quarters should sound great.

Well that's the problem Lane, the pickup is barely a quarter under the strings. I still don't see any screws of any kind that would effect the pu. The only ones I see under the guitar are the ones that hold in the changer

The two screws they talk about aren't there? They might be hiding under the flocking.

Oh, ok that would make sense. How can I remove it without damaging the flocking?

The only thing under the flocking is the wires to the pickup and black painted wood. There is literally nothing there. The serial number is 1C211. I think it's a 73. So did they make a few models without the ability the adjust the pu or what?

Hey, I think I recognize the nicotine in that picture... LOL...
But More to the subject at hand, I had taken apart most of my MSA including the pick ups and maybe I missed it but I don't remember seeing any type of adjustments for the pick ups. Do they have to be shimmed ?
