I have a ShoBud pedal steel; 10 string single with "6" foot pedals and "no" knee levers. I purchased this used (I believe in 1973) with case and volume pedal. I understand this to be a "Maverick" model, there are stamped numbers on one of the end castings and wood body underside that match (7406). Not sure what these numbers represent. The guitar is in very nice condition, currently not set up to play. All that remains is putting the raise/lower rods with the brass collars in place according to whatever copedent one desires. Years ago I removed the volume and tone control pots along with the 2 position switch for the pickup that were located on the top center. I can no longer play and would like to sell this, but I don't know the value. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thank you.[img]

Mavericks had 3 and 1, and the endplate didn't look like that.
Underneath it, does it have racks or shafts with pullers/bellcranks on them?
7406 is the serial number.
It'd be worth more with a full set of knees.
Pics of the underside and a better shot of the endplate would help

Do you still have the pots and switch? That may figure into the value. The 'model' number would help if you have it. Looks like it might have been born a C6 single.

My Maverick came with only 3 pedals, I added 1 knee. Also, there was no inlay in the maple body or neck and both end plates were a wrinkled black color. Also, no adjustable legs.
This is an interesting steel though.

Had one just like it. 1967. Except mine had 2 knee levers. Nice-sounding guitars. Easy to convert. Mine, having 6 pedals and 2 knees had 8 cross shafts. Easy to convert to 3 pedals and 5 levers using the original cross shafts. Easy to move the A,B,and C pedals and cross shafts to today's standard positions. But also a good C6th guitar.

I believe that's a Model 6140. 6139 with the different pedal configuration. While it would make a great C6 horn, my understanding is that most were shipped set up E9. Mooneyish, maybe?

Nothing about it looks remotely like a Maverick.

Yep... it's a 6140. And an older one, before the metal changer surround. Early 70's, before '73.
Cool gtr, and like stated above, would make a nice sgl C6 axe.
Value? hmmm...
I'd do a Forum search in the For Sale section to see what 6139's have been going for. You might find a couple 6140's, but they're kinda rare.

Looks to be in very nice shape. As stated earlier, it would make a difference if you still had the controls/switch as it was for the split coil of the pickup. Setup as a C6th would be killer but certainly could be a sweet E9th as well. Smile

I recently picked up a very similar 6140-6 pedal X 2 knees; it is a killer C6. No knee levers on the left promotes some busy dancing on the pedals. Put 6th string raise on pedal #2, gives me major chords I like. The rack and barrels were easy to set up to my desires. It's light-weight, good looking, vintage, and plays & sounds great to me. I play primarily C6, so this is ideal. This guitar sat to the end, unbid, on ebay; then I saw it here on the forum. I paid 14 bills, add shipping. That is probably high-retail, but a good buy for me seeing as I play it here all the time,lately. For my use, the two knee levers are needed. This has 2 knobs and coil tap switch on the front deck. I enjoy the light color as compared to the dark cold brown Professional.

You got a pretty fair deal, Luke. I'm a C6 guy too and I like those 6 pedal guitars. I just bought a 6p/0k 1967 bolt-on PP and I paid more than 1400 for it. I'll be in over 2k when I get some levers on it.

Earlier 6140's have the pedals closer to the center of the gtr...where they would normally be for C6 on a D10.
Later 6140's had the pedals moved over, probably to make it more E9 friendly.

When received, my 6X2 ShoBud was set up for E9, so I fixed that. I did not move the pedals. I still need a couple more pull-rods to complete my C6 plan. I couldn't get the bottom string down to A (std.pedal eight), so I removed and cleaned the finger. That didn't do it. I disengaged the 10th string return helper spring. That fixed it. ...I guess John's 6140 would sell for about a grand, though it is worth more than just a wad of bills. Several hundred for an added knee or two. As a potential buyer,I'd like to see the top view to look at the location of missing electronics. And a view of the underside could be informative.
