My dear old dad and I put this thing together last weekend. he's a woodworker and made the Alder body from plans. I had some spare parts in my junk pile, including a Goto 6 saddle tele bridge, a Bill lawrence stacked humbucking tele bridge pickup (with hand written schematic by Bill), a Fender 1000 nut, and a 25.5" scale ShoBud fretboard (not sure what it was made for). It sounds pretty good with great string separation and sustain even above the 12th fret. It still needs to be finished. I bypassed the tone pot since I didn't have a capacitor and need to paint it. I may use tung oil...is that a bad idea?

Any of the modern wipe on finishes would be fine, including those labeled as a tung oil finish. Pure tung oil though would not be a great choice. Traditional old school drying oils like tung take a very long time to cure and don't offer much protection.
