Does anyone have a voicing for a dominant7#9 (or 7b9) chord for the E9 neck? |

Like Jonathan said, strings 9, 5 and 6, pedal A down.
I find it easier to think one fret down from the pedals down position.
E7#9 fret 6, for E7b9 just release the A pedal. _________________ Olli Haavisto

The easies way to make a 7#9 is to raise string 7 F# to G.
MAke E7#9. |

Thanks for the responses guys.... they have helped me quite a bit for the major keys. My next problem is with a minor key. If I'm playing in Em at the 3rd fret where do I find the B7#9? This is probably obvious with what you've already shared with me but I seem to be missing something. Thanks for your help. |

If your Em is 5,6,8 with the A pedal, then 1st fret, still with the A pedal but 5,6,9.
(I can lower my 8th string a whole step which makes it easier.) _________________ Make sleeping dogs tell the truth!

These are good answers everyone.
Ian, where do you put the E lower to D? Is it on the lever with your E to D# or someplace else?

John, you guessed it. D# is a ½-stop and D is all the way. (It's a uni setup so it doubles as P6.) Musically it's great, mechanically it needs some refinement as it's tricky to hit the D# in tune on the way back. _________________ Make sleeping dogs tell the truth!

You can think of a 7b9 chord as a diminished chord with the bass player handling the root. The root note of the chord is intended to be voiced below the E9th pedal steel's range*. So, think of it as a diminished one note higher than the chord name. In other words, if you see E7b9, play F°. If you see A7b9, play Bb°. Etc.
I hope that helps.
*On C6th, you can hit the root on the 9th or 10th string. The E9th doesn't go that low. _________________ -𝕓𝕆𝕓- (admin) - Robert P. Lee - Recordings - Breathe - D6th - Video |

Bob, thanks. I didn't ever think of it that way before you splained it. But it sure makes sense and simplifies things. _________________ Tim Brady |
