| I like David Cobb as much as the next guy but his RAM truck commercial is just silly. I hope the current crop of real artists doesn't get vacuumed up by corporate America any time soon. |

I recall in about 2005 when seeing a Chevy truck commercial for the first time on TV where the song was Steve Earle's "The Revolution Starts Now" and the old eyebrows raised and I was thinking - "is that really Steve Earle on a Chevy truck ad?"
That one inspired a fair amount of backlash, but I don't think it "ruined" him.
Seems to me there is a big gap between doing some things for commercial gain and "selling out." I was reading in the article that Dave Cobb has taken over the lease on RCA Studio A - if the compensation from the RAM Truck ad helped accomplish this, then more power to him. I'd rather Cobb is the caretaker than some guy who is going to crank out more Bro Country.
I think he nailed it in this quote about how he approaches things in the studio:

A-freaking-men! I'll see some of these popular mainstream "country" groups performing on TV and there will be three, or even four electric guitars. Why would any band need four electric guitars? And you hear the recording and it's just a cluster____.
