Except for the differences, they all sound exactly alike. |

I got the impression that was music of a humorous bent, and not really a serious composition.
P.O.V. is everything. My apologies, Sir. |

It's odd that everyone except me prefers the original. The changes that I made to the algorithm are apparently detrimental. _________________ -πππ- (admin) - Robert P. Lee - Recordings - Breathe - D6th - Video |

The original breathes. It transcends just being organized, systematized sound. The other ones, to me, do not. |

I agree with Jon. A big part of it for me is the timbre of the instruments. I just don't care for the horn sounds on the three newer cuts. For what it's worth, I don't really like the "trumpet" stop on the world's finest pipe organs either. I do like horns when they're played by human breath though. |

What we have here is the musical equivalent of the self-driving automobile. I offer this observation without prejudice, but I reserve the right to get out of the way if I feel threatened. _________________ Make sleeping dogs tell the truth!

Jazz is people trying to be creative. If I understand what b0b is about, this is a computer being algorithmic.
Speaking as a consumer, I find my tolerance of the unexpected is greater for pitches than for rhythms. I would find the result easier to listen to* if the quantizing of rhythm were coarser.

Having already voted for the original, I'll put in a second vote for the 5th one. Not sure why. That one just lays a little better for me. Is that the same as the second one, just with different instrumentation? |

They are all the same algorithm, but there are a lot of random numbers in it that make every performance unique. _________________ -πππ- (admin) - Robert P. Lee - Recordings - Breathe - D6th - Video |

I realize this is not philosophy of music, but I'm interested that these 'compositions' have as much ambivalence in them temporally
as you seem to have expressed discomfort about in the past. Is this your new music, metaphysically speaking?
What I really wanted to say was, quoting you, "This music makes no sense to me at all!" |

I just noticed what I'd missed before, that you were born in coal-mining Pennsylvania. Very interesting brief bio, quickly overtaken by the bots.
b0b is a virtual (internet) persona. Talk about ambiguity....
I think Zappa would have hired you for Absolutely Free. |

Funny you should mention Zappa, Charlie. I am the lone (so far) vote in the poll for the first version of Do Thing in the OP, partly, at least, because it reminds me of some of the music on Uncle Meat, one of my all-time favorite albums. |
