This first is heading east to Cindy Cashdollar. Quite a Wow! factor to the 1950s-inspired color design. Don't know what pickups are on it.

Cool steel, Bill makes some great instruments.
I wonder how the pickups and controls are setup. Volume / Tone and no blend?. And the pickup mounting is a bit different. It appears that each pickup might not be individually height adjustable. If I had to guess, I'd say the four screws at the corners are for mounting and the two larger screws in the middle raise both at the same time.

Outside of the colors (which are hallmarks of mid-1950s American design), the overall vibe reminds me a little of German-made instruments from Framus, Huffier and other makers. In fact, that routed edge is known as a "German Carve."

Thanks, Chris! I was a little disappointed in the photos they chose because the plan had been to shoot at a cool Texas roadhouse with lots of neon. Personally, I generally prefer shots of people to only close ups of instruments. You'd be hard pressed to find a nicer person in the current steel world than Cindy.

I can understand that. But I must say, the photos they used ARE fantastic in their own right. FJ must be the classiest guitar publication out there - I'm always amazed at the depth of the interviews (musicians humbly speaking of all they've learned and have yet to learn) and the beauty of the images. Even the ads are not distracting; they seem to fit the overall vibe of the content. |
