I had this custom made back in '09 by Jim Flynn of Lone Star Steel Guitars. It's never been gigged as I've been on and off playing steel, got married and lived abroad without my instruments for most of the last several years. If you need more excuses, please let me know. It's been in it's case for years and my wife wants a piano.....
It's in excellent condition and fully configurable for 3 pedals and 4 knees. This is not a "starter" steel, the copedent is not permanent. It's currently tuned BEG#BEG# with the pedals and left knees doing what you'd expect. I can't remember what I had the right knees doing (or if I ever set them up at all) but I can pull it out if someone really needs to know.
I had this custom made to allow for ambitious electronics with an easy access panel mounted to the outside. I'll try my best to describe how it all works.
- there are two custom Fralin Split-Blade pickups which cost me around $350 at the time. I'll get to why they are custom in the next few points.
- the pickups are movable and there's a wheel to tighten them down when you find your sweet spot.
- there are two outputs and the steel can be played in mono/normal or stereo with the flick of one of the toggle switches.
- when set to stereo, there are two modes. 1) each pickup routes to a different output 2) the three bass strings route to one output while the treble strings route to another.
- one of the switches reverses which output gets the chosen signal above
- the black chicken-head knob is a blender pot to move between bridge and neck when in mono (just like a pickup selector) and is used to adjust the volume level of the two signals in stereo.
- the final toggle switch is a phase switch and only works in certain combinations of the above.
- two tone knobs that have a different effect depending on if used in mono or stereo (in stereo, you can adjust the one of each "route").
Comes in a hard case made by Jim Flynn.
