I think I am. '70 fatback PP Emmons through a Walker SS with 1501-DT speakers. I am loving it every night I play knowing that it moves me and I play better because of it.
What about you?

yes ! Ha! When I bring out the PP I too love it and play differently. But I also bring out the Legrande II which I love to play and play differently.

I've never achieved the sound I hear in my head. The closest was when I played through a 20 watt Crate, one of the original ones that looked like a packing crate, with a POD 2.0 for reverb. It sounded great at low volume, but didn't have enough power for anything more that rehearsing and woodshedding.
The amp eventually died. The repair guy said it wasn't worth fixing, and I threw it away. It was a cool little amp, and I miss it.

For the most part. I run a stereo delay, ping-ponging the dry note & the wet note between 2 amps; sounds very spacious & "big" without being to loud. Trick is correct placement of the small "wet" amp...no more than a foot from the main amp. I have been complimented on my tone more than once. The straight sound only gets digital reverb. Thinking of going to an '012 for the G#.

Like Mike, I've never managed to create the sound that I want. On recordings I've created a unique sound, but it was by accident, striving for something else. it makes me wonder if the sound that I really am looking for has been created by others by accident, looking for something else.
When instruments were all acoustic, it was easy. Nowadays, there are so many effects, and an infinite number of ways of combining them, that, even when we've found a sound that we like, replicating it is difficult. We're spoilt for choice. |

Wes Montgomery always complained that he was never able to achieve the tone he wanted. But as we listen to his records, we have no problems with his tone.
I stopped obsessing about this. The audience doesn't have my mental picture of what I want. They enjoy it as long as the steels isn't too harsh or shrill.
I set my tone controls to get as mellow a sound as I can, and let it go.

I've given up on exactly the tone I want.
I find I'm happier with a tone I like.
I'd have been very happy staying with my Ultralinear Twin or Session 400 or 500. But I wasn't about to turn down the wife's offer of a Milkman.
Chasing the perfect tone makes the perfect the enemy of the good, as the proverb says.

| Yes! My sound is fairly consistant playing a Zum U-12 through a Stereo Steel with a TC, M300 processor and a Hilton pedal. The only fly in the ointment is the venue, itself. I play in many different places and initially have to dial it in before I'm happy. It's usually only a little tweak here or there. On another note.. My old RusLer always sounded great playing through my Fender Twin, but, one day at an outside job the sound was spectacular. I know it wasn't me, but, the steel sounded just like Lloyd Green's ShoBud on the Don Williams albums. I was in steel guitar ecstasy, totally mesmerized by the sound. Unfortunately, I was never, ever able to produce that sound again. |

64 Standel Custom 15 with JBL D-130, Boss DD2 Delay suites me fine with LeGrande II, push pull, Zum or Magnum.
