Hi all, I have my very 1st cable pull PSG on it's way...a 4 pedal Fender 400 and I'm thinking about the copedent I want to setup. I have a silly question...can someone explain to me in detail the difference between a single pull and a double pull instrument? I thought I understood the limitation of a single pull then I d'loaded the old Fender 400 manual and saw their tuning charts and realized I really don't understand this as well as I thought I did Wink

Thanks!
Dennis

With the 400, each string can be raised and/or lowered by a preset amount.

Each pedal can pull either one or two strings.

So for example (assuming you were tuning to strings 3 to 10 of a standard E9)

One pedal can raise both your B strings to C#
Another can raise your G# strings to A
Another can raise your high E to F# and your high B to C#.

These are the "standard" A B and C pedals for E9.

You could in addition lower your Es to Eb on another pedal.

You could have a pedal that raises one string and lowers another one.

What you can't do is have another pedal raising your Es to F because you have already designated the E raise as being to F#.

That's about the only limitation - each string can only be one of 3 notes - the no pedals note and one higher and one lower note.

In the above example you might decide the E to F is more usefull than E to F#.

The great thing about the Fender cable steels is that they are so easy to reconfigure and find out what you like best.

Ah, that's the sentence that really made it click Winking

I thought single pull meant that 1 string could only be altered sharp or flat by only 1 pedal and that 1 pedal could only alter 1 string...in other words, 1 pedal per string and 1 string per pedal. Checking out the Fender 400 manual copedents I saw neither of these were true. I didn't realize that 1 string could be altered sharp by 1 pedal and flat by another pedal. Happy to know that for what I'm looking to do, single pull is not really that much of a limitation after all Very Happy

Thanks Jeff!
