Howdy folks,Today I picked up a Peavey bandit 112
with the teal stripe on the front for $30.00. Looks like mid 90's. Great condition, amp played fine when I tried another speaker. The original speaker in it has the center piece or core missing out of it. There are three bolts that hold on the magnet. anybody know if you can get that core or necessary speaker parts from Peavey? Got a pic? Could be a Scorpion I don't think they put Widows in Bandits. If it's just the dust cap, it should still play...You can replace that.
If it's a Scorpion or a Black Widow, the basket is replaceable if necessary...search around here and online. Peavey does still show one 12" model of scorpion on their site and there may be some floating around the online speaker dealers. Mike Brown will know. It should have a model number on it somewhere near the terminals. A photo will help identify it though. |

I dont know what kind it is but the cones been torn out too. I'll probably just order the correct speaker
from Peavey. I believe its 8 ohms. Stock speaker is most likely a Sheffield, not ideal for pedal steel. Peavey Bandits do make credible steel amps simply by substituting a different speaker such as an Eminence Cannabis Rex. |

The stock speakers in Bandits were no name chinese speakers. I put a 15" speaker in a Bandit and it was fantastic! It just fits. I had to give the Bandit back but if I could get one for $30 i would put the 15" in. It sounded great and it was nice and light. |

The speaker in Bandits depends on the era.
There were 50 watt Bandit, Bandit 65, 70 etc.
The earliest Bandit 112 models I know of had Scorpion speakers. The later ones were Sheffield 1230, but they were not bolted.
I'm not sure, but the very latest Bandits may have used Blue Marvels.
If it's a Peavey factory installed speaker and the mag is bolted to the basket with 3 bolts it's likely a Scorpion S-12425 [4ohm]or S-12825 [8ohm]. |

I called Peavey today and talked to Mike Brown because my session 500 went toes up and I got to send that to them and get it fixed. He said the speaker was a scorpion in the bandit. The amp was made in 89. He transfered me over to the parts dept. and they wanted 128.00 for the replacement speaker. Im wondering if anybody recones these old speakers in northeast ga. Please let me know. I will upload a picture of it. Uh, I just read your post Jerry thanks for the speaker info. Lee, I have 2 used 12" Scorpion speakers, I'll sell them both for 100, shipped. Or one for 50.00. They work fine. |

Lee. i picked up a Teal Stripe Bandit, (Special 112), chassis from a forum member a while back. I fixed a few issues, and installed it in a Special 150 cab. That cab also had a Scorpion, (installed from the front), that was no good. I had a 8 ohm Blue Marvel laying around, and installed it, (from the rear). It sounds great! I haven't played my Sho-Bud through it, but the Tele, and my Gretsch lap sound great! |

That's a pretty good deal and your best bet. You can't get one repaired for that. A new basket is around $75....unless you can find a used basket cheap.
Other compatible speakers would be the Sheffield 1230 or the Blue Marvel 12" model for newer Bandits. |

Thanks Bill, but I'll pass on it. The speaker is an
S-12825 I've given the amp to my son in law and he ordered a speaker from MF and he's gonna have the old one fixed. Thanks for all the input.
