Topic: First post on the forum - got a Stringmaster a few days ago |

Greetings, this is my first post on the forum and I'm really looking forward to learning a lot from you guys.
I've played guitar for over 40 years. I had a Dobro when I was a teenager and played a Gibson BR9 lap steel in a band for a few years back in the 70s/80s. But hard times forced me to sell those and I stuck with just guitar for a long time. However, about 4 years ago I picked up another BR9, 2 years ago I picked up an RQ Jones resonator, and last week I was able to get a 1960 StringMaster. It has 2 necks and has its fair share of signs of being played quite a bit.
I've wanted to get into 8 string steel playing for a LONG time and I'm totally thrilled to have this StringMaster. I'm playing it and figuring it out every spare minute I have. I've got one neck tuned to C6 (A-C-E-G-A-C-E-G) and the other tuned to E13 (E-G#-D-F#-G#-B-c#-E). I'm just so loving the sounds I'm getting on this instrument as I'm figuring out some western swing tunes.

You know, I never realized that little groove between the necks was for holding stuff to throw at the drummer...

My D-8 has the blade switch, but my T-8 has the buttons, though they are in good shape. Surely those things can be revived, can't they?

I believe so, but they are always dodgy, and it's beyond my skill level to fix. I cant comprehend anything more complicated than a Telecaster blade switch. My repair guy is going through my D-8 now. I fear that some of the pickups may need to be rewound/recharged as well. |
