I have just bought a copy of "Steel Guitar Jazz" Buddy Emmons on the Mercury label, which is wonderful.
On the cover is a PSG with 4 pedals and rods on the right hand side with what looks like a fold up system. Anybody know what guitar this is?

Mark,
That is one of Buddy's favorite guitars. A Multi Kord! |

Adding insult to injury, the photo of the (even then) obsolete Multi-Kord was printed backwards, reversed left-to-right. (It was probably the only steel guitar photo the Mercury graphics department had available.) It has been the subject of a few threads here on the Forum, and though I imagine Buddy wasn't too happy with the whole situation, that album cover certainly is unique and immediately identifiable. (I liken it to that famous air-mail stamp where the plane was printed upside-down.)
But, it's what's inside that counts! IMHO, the sheer energy of that album is fantastic. It's still the closest thing to a live jazz performance I've ever heard, and it's a credit to all who were involved. If ever there was a "landmark" steel guitar record, that's it!
I even liked "Anytime"! ![](http://steelguitarforum.com/wink.gif) |
