We had a modest crowd, but a great meeting and jam. Our featured player was Dale Thomas who continues to dazzle us with this virtuosity on his Rains D10 and vocals. Also we had Randy Boyd on a Mullen D10 G2 and vocals, Doug Enerud on a Sierra D10, Stephen Cowell on his Fender T8. Also making his debut was Keven Skrla playing a Mullen D10. Kevin has just begun steel and he is sounding very promising. The back up band was Billy Phelps on lead guitar and vocals, Patty Phelps on bass, and Larry Schoppe on bass. Egor on drums, prompted by Billy Phelps.
No meeting next month due to the Dallas show. |

Dale is a great picker, and he has a lot of fun doing his set. It is always a treat when he makes down our way. I would love to sit down with him to learn Rose City Chimes!! _________________ D-10 Mullen RP Telonics TCA-500a Combo Amp, Peavy Nashville 400s, 1000, session 400 limited, Nashville 112, Telonics VP, DD3 |

David, Those harmonics all over the neck would be daunting, but it would be a great tune to master. Then, there is the Travis picking. I'll stick with Home on the Range. |

I particularly liked the way he eviscerated 'Alley Cat'... it's a musical tradition to turn that tune inside out, upside down, and sideways... and Dale didn't disappoint! I believe that comes from the '60s when it was so over-requested and over-played that wrecking it became a favorite pastime. _________________ New FB Page: Lap Steel Licks And Stuff: https://www.facebook.com/groups/195394851800329 |

Jim, you are right the harmonics are all over the place. The only other steel guitarist I have heard do an outstanding job on that tune is Russ Hicks. Oh, and BTW Stephen, Dale "eviserated" Alley Cat. I guess that is one way to put it LOL. _________________ D-10 Mullen RP Telonics TCA-500a Combo Amp, Peavy Nashville 400s, 1000, session 400 limited, Nashville 112, Telonics VP, DD3 |
