Susan Alcorn inspires me to want to play solo pieces, but I've always felt safer with a band behind me. I've promised myself that I would explore solo performances more, and this arrangement is the result of a happy accident, after spending a few weeks playing it in a traditional manner as a Texas shuffle.
I was still in the process of learning this when I recorded it, and it took a while to even get this far. I hope to expand and improve it in the future.

I guess it's a little cooler if you know the tune:

I didn't make any changes to my tuning, although there are some things that I can do with my 10 string that will make this better. _________________ Links to streaming music, websites, YouTube: Links |

That is such a cool tune. The dissonances are so purposeful and brave. _________________ Steel Guitar Books! Website: www.volkmediabooks.com |

Here's another string player tackling Monk .... way back in the mid 50s. Bill Harris is pretty obscure but an interesting player. His LP Solo Guitar from 1956 is considered to be the first album of solo jazz guitar ever released.

Thanks for sharing, Mike. Cool arrangement. I appreciate you posting your ideas as you work on a song. I've learned a lot by watching your videos. |
