I just thought I'd take time to remember the loss of Jimmie Crawford... Truly one of the most unique and under-rated steel players ever.
If Hughey is considered the master of the "upper register"... Then I would designate Jimmie as the "Master of the Lower Register" (...although a similar case could probably be made for the great Bobby Garrett).
To me, Jimmie's mastery of low notes proves that if you know how to play your steel well enough... then you will never need to bring a lead guitar to get those sounds. Now with that said, I'm not quite there yet myself. |

Jimmie was one of the instrument's greats and a splendid human being as well.

I'm with Roger! Jimmie was a special player, steel guitar designer / builder - and he was a wonderful human being.
I often look at his hand-written copedant charts and instructions, for the first JCH D10 he built for me. I think that if he'd been a technical writer for Microsoft, I might better understand some of their software! I miss his humour too!
Is it really eleven years?

20 years ago I was in Bobbee Seymour's store shooting the breeze with Bobbe when Jimmie walked in. They proceeded to tell me stories for 45 mins. and the love and respect between them was obvious and so inspiring to the wannabe steeler I was at the time.

I was able to visit with Jimmie in 1990 at his house. Went down in the basement and hung out for a few hours of just watching him play......what a wonderful and funny guy!

Scotty brought Jimmy along to one of the Norwegian 3 day seminars near Oslo back in the 1980s. We sure learned and also laughed a lot. Jimmy was hilarious.

What an awesome person Jimmie was. His playing and mastery of the steel guitar speaks for itself. Also, his warmth and humor were so very huge.
In the 70s, he did work on my Emmons "Originals." Later, he built a JCH for me. Being around Jimmie was something special. I sure miss him. He was "a dandy."
