Some top steel players use a either a control box, or an amp, which stands sideways to the audience. From time to time they make adjustments to it. What is it? JAMES TAYLOR

It varies by player. I used to have a reverb and EQ in a rack next to me. I've also seen multi effects units, I've also put my amp there.

James, what you describe is just what Lane said, usually some form of rack case with everything in it eg pre amp/ power amp, effects ( I used to have a SKB case with Peavey Pro fex pre amp/effect unit, Peavey DPC power amp) , makes it easy to adjust volume/ tone/effects without having to reach behind you to make the adjustments, cable then runs to your speaker cab, normally placed behind you. Some players have their combo amp at their side , using it as a monitor when it is mic''d up or DI'd straight to the PA.It is just a matter of personal taste on whatever set up you use.

Or if you have completely lost your mind.
