Has anyone tried the Jupiter 12" Ceramic speaker for pedal steel ?
I see Tim Marcus is using them in his milkman minis, 4 ohm 12" .
Anyone have any experience with these ? As expected, all the online searching gives reviews from six stringers. |

I have used them in a milkman mini and I really liked them . Full and clear sounding. No weird bumps or dips. They are not a compromise. If I didn't have a jbl problem I would be using them. _________________ Bob |

I have 2 of the 12" ceramic 50w 8 ohm speakers in an open back 2x12 cabinet that I use with a 1967 fender dual showman, and I like them quite a bit. A while back I asked Tim if they'd be good in this setup and on his recommendation put them in. I was looking for a Vintage fender twin vibe in a head/cab set-up, and I think Ive got it. I have 2 JBL D120fs from 68 that need a recone, but i may just stay with the jupiters. |

I have one in a Milkman Mini... It was nice out of the box, but a couple of loud gigs really opened it up. Good match for 22 to 50 watt Fender flavored amps.... |

Jupiter offers two 12" ceramic speakers:
12SC 25W "Super Ribbed Cone"
12LC 50W "Ceramic Guitar Speaker"
I know standard/Fender/Gibson/etc. 6 string guitars don't have the same requirements as a pedal steel guitar.
Which one would you suggest (or are using) for steel guitar purposes? |

I have two of the 25 watters in my blackface vibrolux. They sound very, very similar to the old jensens I had in it before, only a lot more efficient. I'm considering getting a 50 watt ceramic model for my Standel studio 12. |

Brett,
That's good to hear. I have an old 2x10 non-reverb Vibrolux, with Celestions. Keep thinking about getting some different speakers in there, been looking at those Jupiters...
Do you play both 6 string and pedal steel through that amp?

I just tried the 2 12' ceramic jupiters in the open back cabinet with a 68 bandmaster head I have, and I like them even more with the bandmaster. |

I use the vibrolux pretty much exclusively for guitar or lap steel. One time I brought out a 15" and 12" jbl cab and used it for pedal steel and it was pretty great. Which tempts me to get another combo cab for it with a 15" baffle. The 2 x 10's sound a little wimpy to me for pedal steel, but who knows, it just might be the right thing with a different guitar and at the right volume. |

a 1x15 Vibrolux, now you're talking!
i use mine for pedal steel all the time, it's the biggest amp I have so…
i know what you mean about the 2x10, though my amp has kinda thick sounding Celestions, and gets plenty of bass. maybe a little farty, sometimes. |

I think Jupitors are better for guitar than pedal steel, IMHO. I can't get over the detail in the mids that I get from JBLs, for steel....
I thought the Alnico Jupitor was better for steel than the ceramic though, but went back still went back to the jbl as well...
Regarding a Vibrolux for steel, I miss mine. It had two Reverend 25 watt speakers. Great sound but not enough when things got loud. _________________ Dave Zirbel-
