Disclaimer, I could have missed something and this most likely isn't an exact count but I'm fairly close. 
I did a count of pedal steel guitars for sale on the instruments for sale forum. My day counter is set for everything thats been written within the last 30 days to show on my view of the page. Of the total of appr. 113 exclusively pedal steel guitars for sale, the break down by brand is as follows;
Emmons 23
MSA 10
ShoBud 18
Kline 2
Carter 5
BMI 2
Marrs 2
Williams 4
Mullen 2
Derby 3
Zum 4
Sierra 6
Excel 1
EMCI 1
GFI 2
Marlen 3
Deckley 1
MCI 1
Cougar 1
Fender 3
Fenssenden 2
I wonder how these numbers could be evaluated? Are most folks tired of their old guitar or are there more Emmons and Buds for sale simply because they made so many of them. I also notice that there aren't any ZB's in the group at all. Usually you can see an old ZB for sale but unless I overlooked it I didn't find one.
Again this survey was very loosely put together. It would really surprise me to find that there's only one error herein.

If anything, I think it reflects the number of various brands of pedal steels in existence. Emmons and Sho-Buds are plentiful, Excels, MCIs and ZBs are rare.
I don't think it has anything to do with peoples' opinions of the various brands. |

Well, actually I looked up presendential POLE before I posted that and on google it came up with that spelling. Guess you could go either way but thats not exactly the point of the post at any rate. I just found the wide range and numbers of various guitars for sale to be of interest.

A steel guitar POLL I'll buy.
A presidential POLE seems right too,
because they are giving us the shaft.
There seem to be a lot of Emmons out there,

I looked it up again on google and used POLL and that works too.
ZB's must be getting scarce. Sure aren't many for sale at least. That should make the price of them go up.

Since I'm Polish,I guess you could call me a steel guitar "Pole". Besides,if people from Poland are called,"Poles",why aren't people from Holland called "Holes"??

I think you would need to analyze "marketing time" in order get a feeling for desirability. IE, how long between the placement of an ad, and a confirmed sale.
This is all about supply and demand, Econ 101. Supply of ZBs is low, demand is high = few guitars for sale. Supply of Emmons is high, demand is moderate = lots of guitars for sale.
