| whats a good speaker to put in a fender twin for lead i was told peavey speakers didnt sound real good in a twin |

My Ultralinear sounds great with Eminence Legend E-M12G speakers

I use 25 watt greenbacks and they are good for lead and steel in my Twin.
Nothing wrong with Peavey speakers.

| Altec's sound great in Fender amps too. I'm a JBL nut but I think I actually prefer the Altec 418b in my twin. |

| Add me to the Altec 418B list, but I can't imagine why Black Widows wouldn't sound great in a Twin (heavy though). If I had the do rei mi I'd opt for a pair of Eminence neos to bring the weight down. |

Yes 15", altecs, JBLs , SROs, the new Teleonics and EPS 15 C all sound good in a twin. I've only tried a 15" Peavey black widow in a twin , ( never tried two twelves) , and it sounds good as well.
At the time there weren't other steel dedicated speakers, and it worked well. Like the other older speakers, it's heavy, but you knew that.
The right speaker makes all the difference in a twin. I'm using a K130, and it sounds great, but I'm getting tired of moving it. |

| I've been a big fan of Twins for steel for many years now. My answer is, depends on how much you're willing to tolerate the weight. All the above answers are right. My back ultimately told me to go a different route. I have for a few years now used the Telonics 15" Neo speaker. Does it completely nail the JBL K130 (my all time personal favorite)? NO. Is it close enough and much easier on the back? YES? I have a nice portable 2 wheeler and I use it any chance I get, but once I'm at my vehicle, I still have to lift it off the ground. |

I put in a set of Black Widows in my 1976 Music Man Twin. They sounded absolutely fantastic.
They also brought the weight up to 104 pounds.
As good as they sounded, I got rid of them and put in a set of Carvins, (which I was told were made by Emenence) which also sounded great. But eventually, I put in a set of Telonics neo speakers. The telonics are excellent, and considerably lighter than any of the others.
Even so, I want to sell the amp.

Weber California series with paper dust cap and medium dope. I have a lot of speakers JBL D , K and E, Altec, EVM and Celestion gold.
These Webers compare, sound great, and you do not have to worry about blowing them.

| Will the TT-12s fit in an early fender twin reverb (1970)? My Jbls measure 309mm across, and the specs on the TT-12 says 314.5 mm, Id like to try 2 in the twin, but have a feeling that nothing will line up. |

Pretty sure that the holes will line up, and any variance will be in the width of the outer flange.
I find it nearly inconceivable that it wouldn't fit one of the amps most likely to receive it.

Just a note on putting Celestion speakers in a Twin Revererb amp. I ordered 2 Celestion Vintage 30 speakers for my original Blackface 1965 Fender Twin and apeakers had 4 hole mounting and the baffle board on the Twin had 8 mounting bolts on the baffle board. I had a choice of drilling 4 more holes on each speaker or cutting 4 bolts on the baffle board.
I cut the 4 bolts on the baffle board thinking it would be an easy task. Not so as the speaker bolts on the baffle board are made of a hardened steel. Got the job done and the amp sounds very nice with the Vintage 30 speakers. If I had it to do over again I would drill the speakers and keep the Twin original. Don't know if later Twins had a different mounting setup. |

| All great suggestions but I can detect two minor issues; 1)Purchasing a pair of the majority of the speakers mentioned may mean a sizable investment of $400.00 or more; 2) Installing speakers with a combined power handling capability of 500 to 700 watts in an 85 watt amp may be a bit excessive?..FWIW: Another vote for the Weber California speakers, reasonably priced and a pair will sound good and handle the power quite nicely. |

After measuring everything up....
jbl d120fs- 309mm
tt-12s- 314.5mm
jupiter condenser 12- 311.5mm.
The Jbls were in the twin originally, the jupiters are in it now and have no room on either side, nor between the speakers themselves....so, the TT-12s are a no-go, and it looks like Ill be sending the Jbls off to be re-coned! |
