I have a Nashville 1000 that has an issue that I was wondering any of you have experienced before.
Have any of you done the IC Chip mod and found the amp to start having intermittent problems where the Audio would breakup then clear up a short few minutes and then start breaking up again. I have removed a reseated the chips and that didn't help.
I've checked every cable, jumpered all in/outs and even had the amp apart and wiggled things but could not find anything that seemed to cause it to start or stop. I've re-soldered many places that kinda looked suspicious and that didn't change anything.
I've sent this amp back two times to Peavey at a cost of around $150.00 and each time it worked ok for a month or so then it started again.

Next time it does it, try the "jumper cable" (guitar cord) between the pre eq out/in, post eq out/in and/or preamp out/power amp in. See if one of these fixes it.
If it does, the "in" jack's "normal through" contact on the jack is dirty. |

Thanks Jack but been there done that. I feel like it's one of the Chips but just don't know without having another set to change out and see what happens.
I may be forced to just get another set and try them. _________________ Cops aren't paid much so I steel at night. |

Have you got the old chips that you took out? Try subbing them back in for a while. I doubt it is a chip, but that is worth trying. I've seen two N1000 with the same issue and it was cold solder joints to a large header connector on the power amp board. I would think that Peavey took care of that already, as it is a known issue. |

Unfortunately I trashed them after a few months Ken. _________________ Cops aren't paid much so I steel at night. |

Switch the chips to different slots on the preamp board and see if the symptoms change. If no change I would suspect its not a chip problem. |

Dick, couple of questions, did you install the mod yourself and how long after the amp was modded did this intermittent problem begin to occur? How long can you play the amp at first before the problem begins? Is it always OK at first, when you first turn on the amp, or does it sometimes have the problem right away when the power is first turned on? |

Jeff, Yes I installed them which means inserting them into sockets. The amp sounded great and worked fine for a few months then it blew a large power supply capacitor. I ordered a direct replacement and installed it but that didn't help so I sent it back to Peavey.
It worked fine for a few months then it would distort sometimes after it was just turned on and sometimes after a few minutes.
I jumped all in/outs and checked cables and nothing helped. I opened up the amp and tapped on various components and even soldered any cold looking joint and that had no effect.
I sent it back Peavey for the second time and it came back working ok for a month or so and I bought a Quilter due to all the problems I'd had.
Ken Fox mentioned an issue with a large connector in the Power Supply so I will check that out.
Thanks to everyone for all the input so far. _________________ Cops aren't paid much so I steel at night. |
