I've just entered steelers heaven with my first Fender T8 with the trap pickups. The number is 9515. Jody, what year was this made?
There are two tuner controls. The one on the right near the pickups is the volume, I think. Scratchy so needs cleaning. The one in the middle of the instrument isn't working at all. What does it do so I can have a beginning point.
All in all the sound is what I've been looking for. The learning curse I have yet to discover graduating from a U12 with 8/5. I've decided on A6, B11 and E13th. Make sense? Thanks. I respect your opinions. Chuck steeling for the Master.

Hey Chuck; I don't believe Jody lives around here anymore pal. The select individuals have run off another legend in our steel guitar history; and I truly wish Jody would grace us with his presence again. I for one; respect our leaders that have carved the path for the steel guitar as we know it. Some folks don't care for someone that actually might know something and offers and gives freely of what they do know.
As far as your Fender; you can find the exact date underneath one of the tuning pans(usually the one farthest from the player)on the wood; written 00-00.
Or sometimes under the pickup or volume/tone pots.
One knob is the volume and one knob is the tone on your steel.
I hope I was able to help you some my friend.
Have fun.

Rick: Jody responded e mail with all his unselfish graciousness. Also told me why he dropped from the Forum. Not all Formulites are genuine. Some phony as a brand new Ricky frypan. He still offers his expertise and has been a real blessisng to me...as you have. Thanks for your web site and info provided. Chuck |

I'd like to believe that it was not a forum member who sent abusive email.
Anyone can read the posts, and get a member's email from them.
A Password (forum membership)is only required if you want to post.
That's why we have DELETE keys.

You'd be surprised at some of the e-mail crap I've been sent by "steel guitar brethren," including one guy whose anger at me, as he got more and more worked up while writing the letter, extended to ALL Texas steel players, culminating in his telling me he's gonna round up a bunch of his steel playing buddies from his state to caravan to TX and kick the asses of "you Texas boys."
Another guy, quite well-known here, simply sent a series of obscenities, not responded to by me, until I simply blocked his e-mail from my account.
While both of these experiences had me going for awhile, I decided that my leaving the Forum would be giving these clowns WAY TOO MUCH POWER over my life, and that I can handle this sort of crap pretty easily. I talked to Jody about this, but he of course has his own reasons and emotions and I respect that in the man as well.
"...Words will never hurt me," as the old kiddie song goes. When it gets to "sticks and stones," however, I will reconsider.

OK Herb, I suppose I wish these weren't forumites.
I guess we can only ignore them and hope they go away.
Best regards..

I have really learned a lot from Jody Carver's posts. How could anyone ever be offended by his posts; or Herb Steiner's?
The most offending thing about Jody is his apparently fouled,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,key on his keyboard.
I think the best thing to do is to copy and paste the offensive e-mail messages to a post on the forum with the offenders name;___ embarrass the heck out of him.

Having played Rock music for many years I can tell you that this type of abusive talk about or to another is very common. A lot of it is stupid ego problems I think.
I've always enjoyed the steel community for being much more down to earth and friendly.
But there's always some guy.... |

In some ways, the behavior of some people on the internet reminds me of the behavior of some people in their cars. There's a sense of invulnerability and non-accountability that certain drivers have. They'll take wild chances, shout obscenitites at other drivers, exhibit road rage behaviors, etc. - all with this sense of privacy when they are, in fact, in a very public situation. Some idiots typing on their keyboard in their underwear at 3am unfortunately exhibit similar behaviors. [This message was edited by Andy Volk on 12 June 2001 at 05:04 PM.] |

Well said Herb. If the good guys don't stand up and stick around, it gives the very few bad guys way to much power. The only way bad people can succed is when good people do not take a stand. I say stand up you good people, because the only thing you have to fear is fear it self. |
