I have a Roland Cube 80X Amp...& it's having issues.
What would make it distort, at LOW volumes??
I doesn't do it at higher volumes, I get occasional distortion at low volumes.
I haven't went straight in....but will. But the 2nd channel really has issues, so I'm thinking it is the amp. The volume control on the 2nd channel, is so sensitive now....I can't even adjust the volume correctly. It's either low volume...or high volumes. Nothing in between.
It's a great amp, too.....but something is wrong.
I use a Hilton Volume Pedal.

Sounds like a dirty pot. Get some tuner cleaner/lube from radio Shack & remove the knob & spray it down the tuner shaft, work it back & forth a few times. That helped with my Twin Reverb. _________________ A couple D-10s,some vintage guitars & amps, & lotsa junk in the gig bag. |

I think Rich is spot on. Dirty pots are a fact of life and about the cheapest amp problem to fix. _________________ Emmons S10, p/p, Nashville 112, Zion 50 tele style guitar, Gibson LP Classic w/Vox AC30, Fender Deluxe De Ville and a Rawdon-Hall classical |

Could be a dirty pot. But, I doubt that you will find cleaner at Radio Shack anymore, if you can even find a Radio Shack.
Guitar Center has DeOxit cleaner. Probably some other music stores. |

Thanks!
I'll check it out. Definitely makes sense for the bad pot.
I'm still wondering why the amp is distorting @ low volumes, on the 1st channel...without the potentiometer problem. As for the 2nd channel, with the bad pot....I'm not even using that side until I fix that pot. It's unusable until I fix it.

I found some De-Oxit 5 at my local Radio shack, a couple of months ago. The Radio Shacks are getting harder to find for sure. Those that are still open. are sharing space with Sprint And the electronics in stock are sparse. I remember when Radio Shack had employees that KNEW electronics. I used to work for them, and we knew our stuff.

Hey Tommy. I don't mean to hijack this thread but as an old school Radio Shack customer I remember they used to have a "battery of the month club" and as long as you came in the store a few times you could get a fresh 9V batt for free each month. They even gave you a card to check off the month I carried in my wallet. My fuzz box and wah wah pedal were oh so grateful. _________________ Emmons S10, p/p, Nashville 112, Zion 50 tele style guitar, Gibson LP Classic w/Vox AC30, Fender Deluxe De Ville and a Rawdon-Hall classical |

Thanks guys! I appreciate the replies & information.
Yeah, Radio Shack....was a great store, especially back in the 70's! I used to go there a lot. Even had a Radio Shackâ„¢ Receiver. They had a different name, other than Radio Shack....but I can't remember right now. It's been a long time. Does anyone remember the name they used for stereo gear? _________________ David "DJ" Rupert

Stew-Mac has CAIG DeoxIT, and a handy pot cleaning cap. It helps get the cleaning fluid where you want it. |
