I just completed the construction of another lap steel and installed an active EMG 707X pickup. I have never used this brand before. I have checked and rechecked the wiring hookup many times to be sure I installed it correctly and everything is according to their diagram. The battery has 9.17 volts, so it is good. The problem is the sound is very un-musically distorted. I want clean but no matter how I set the amp or guitar controls it sounds like s***. The p'up is sitting 7/16 of an inch below the strings so proximity should not be an issue. Anybody out there with any help? So far EMG has not responded to a help request. I've been building guitars and wiring them up for decades but I'm clueless on this one. Thanks!

Rockne, it would be nice of you to share the solution with the rest of us....even though none of us figured it out. Someone else might benefit from the answer. _________________ Best regards,

Ok, Here's how it was resolved. The p'up came with all controls and parts plus slip on wiring connectors that require no soldering. I had placed all of the connectors on the proper prong of the controls but had the tone control output connector flipped over, reversing it fixed the problem. no matter how many times I rechecked the wiring I did not see my mistake. _________________ www.facebook.com/speedingwest
