Herb: As Jody indicated in one of his last postings, he did indeed receive abusive email from some unnamed low-lifes (I guess there are a few on this site, like every other). The sample he quoted me was stupid and crude.
As anyone who's heard the amazing Hot Club of America album knows, Jody is one of the most inventive steel players of all time. What's more, his years at Fender give him an insight to the music business that can be matched by few contributors to this or any other site.
Sounds like a good person to run off, doesn't he?

We can only hope that the abuse Jody received was not so serious, that maybe he will reconsider and come back on as before. It is really sad he's had to put up with this. I for one always thought his posts were absolutely great.

I for one miss Jody very much! I found each and every one of his posts to be interesting, factual, and of value to my musical history. Sorry the "ugly side" of a few individuals has to impact so mightily against otherwise really nice people....like Jody.

It's hard to believe that, amongst steel guitarists there are some real klutz's out there. Jody was most interesting and to be perfectly truthful, prior to the FORUM, I had never heard of this fine person. In fact,
the name "Jody" conjured up a female in my mind! I have yet to hear his fine steel work and hopefully someday I will. Jody, if you are reading this, PLEASE come back onto the FORUM...you are too valuable to drop out because of some idiodic remark made by an obvious moron.

I too enjoyed Jody's stories.

I remember him posting that he's leaving the forum for a while to spend more time with his family, etc.

I think this was in regards to Summer coming.

I hope that's the reason he's not here, and that finds his way back as time allows.

In the parking lot where Leo Fender's old factory once stood just under the overpass in Fullerton, CA. is a mural depicting the Fender Legacy. Leo Fender is portrayed there as are Bob Dylan with a Jazz Bass and Jimi Hendrix with his left handed guitar. And also in the picture is Jody Carver.

Best Regards, Paul

Having just read his story, I can well understand why Jody needs to take a deserved break from the FORUM. Being a grandpa myself,
I've noticed our grand kids grow so quickly.
Jody has it all figured out. The grand kids come first, the FORUM will still be here when he returns. We'll be waiting for more of your storys Jody and in the meantime, have some fun with those young kin folk who obviously love their grandpa.

I've had some e-mails from Jody and he has dropped out because of the crap he has taken. He may one day change his mind but right now he's off working on a book he is writing and paying more attention to his family.

Indeed, Jody has assumed a lower profile on the Forum for some of the reasons already mentioned above, but additionly and more importantly, certain members of his family are having serious health problems, and Jody is rightfully devoting his energy, prayers, and his time to that end.

Jody has too much talent, experience and knowledge about this music world of ours to remain silent forever.

My prayers are with you and yours my friend, please hurry back. Gene Jones

Thanks Ian...So appreciated! Man, I have heard some great stuff throughout my 73 years, but this has to rank amongst the very top. Jody blows me away with his fine steel work! What a pair of musician's musician both of them are (were). I think I'll throw all my steel guitars into the nearest river and jump in...(and I can't swim). I had never heard of the HCOA and were it not for the FORUM, (thanks to bOb), I'd still be existing in a total state of blissful ignorance. In Jody I hear smatterings of Noel, Alvino, Speedy...even a suggestion of Les Paul. Again Ian, my sincere gratitude for this site.

Keoki: Let's give credit where it's due, to Dave van Allen for all his work in building the HCOA site. I've been corresponding with Jody to discuss ways a resissue of the Hot Club album might be arranged. If anyone has any ideas, thyey can email me at my new address, donian@sympatico.ca

Jody is a great guy and a truly an unsung pioneer of our instrument. If his early work had gotten more national exposure we might be saying his name in the same breath as Murphey, Boggs, Remington, etc. - he's certainly in that ballpark.

Jody srtikes me as pretty thick skinned. He has his priorities straight. You never know what life may hand you. He's chosen the joys of family and Summer. Who could fault him?

I'm sure Jody knows that he's always welcome here.

By the way, people don't need to expose their email address when they post on the Forum. If you click "profile" at the top of any Forum page, you'll find a switch that will hide your email address. People who are concerned about getting email from strangers should use that feature.

I've been thinking this ever since folks here have been concerned aboout Jody.

I don't think you can survive in the music business, especially as a sales rep, without learning that some people are poor excuses for humans.

The good news is most people are good folks.

Yes, you are right. Ian. I was amiss by not acknowledging Dave van Allen for his fine work on the HCOA site and I sincerely apologize. Thank you indeed, Dave...without your work, I would never have heard Jody. I am hoping Jody might e-mail me as I lost his e-mail address from previous correspondence. My son reconfigured my computer recently and a few addresses were unfortunately lost. Incidently, my "superiway" address is no longer valid. Here is my NEW e-mail address:
keoki@beer.com I'll be happy to hear from any of you fine people on the FORUM. (bOb, would you please DELETE my old "superiway address? Thanks.)

As Bob said if you don't want email from strangers don't show your email address. There are better ways to deal with crap from people. Why do we steel guitar players have such thin skin. Why do you care what some unknow person may think about us and our playing. Now if my wife told me my playing sucks that might hurt. Wait, she does tell me that. Well I guess I going to leave home for a while, until this crap stops.

Most email programs allow you to block mail from specific email addresses. When someone insults me in email, I just add them to my "Blocked Senders" list and I never hear from them again.

Thanks for the "kudos" on the HCOA site- it is, as stated, a labor of love dedicated to a great little known recording deserving of much wider recognition.I too am exploring issues around re-releasing the HCOA album.

I am glad this forum was the catalyst to my communicating with Jody Carver, who has been in my personal pantheon of Steel Guitar greats since I first heard "Hot Club Of America in Hi-Fi" over a decade ago. I now can count him among my friends as well as among my SG heroes.

I am distressed that Jody felt it necessary to distance himself from this forum, because you could just tell from his posts how much fun it was for him to commune with other like minded folks, and to share his Fender experiences on line.

Apparently someone here (who I do not know ) did not see Jody's long winded posts as enthusiasm, but rather as boastful, or annoying or I dunno what all, took offense and apparently took Jody to task.

Coincidentally other folks who's opinion Jody respects advised him to lay off the forum for a while. And he is now putting his experiences into a book, and spending time with his family. More power to him.

I have faith he will return and I know he knows he is welcome when and if he does.
