Hello forumites,

Just wondering whether anyone knew of an album that has Curly Chalker playing with Don Gibson? I think he played with him in the late sixties or early seventies?

If anyone owns the Bear Family Box Set of Don Gibson, "The Singer, The Songwriter, 1966-1969", does it have much Curly on it?

Thanks in advance!

Greg

I never much liked post-1965 Gibson, but Chalker is supposed to be on these tracks. I can't vouch for it's accuracy.

I wouldn't expect any extended rides, but I recall some favorable comments about Curley with Don on some of these tracks.

Most of the steel on this box set is by Pete Drake, Bill West, Sonny Burnette, Lloyd Green, or Weldon Myrick.

I believe Curly Chalker is on the "Country Green", "Don't Stop Loving Me", "The Gibson Way", "Don Gibson Sings All-Time Country Gold", and "Don Gibson Sings Hank Williams" albums, and probably more.

Thanks Mitch, I'm not a big fan of his later stuff either but would love to hear some Chalker on E9 with the great man. I'm planning on getting the early sixties Bear Family box set and was thinking about getting the late sixties one too (when he was using pedal steel more often).

Thanks Peter, unfortunately most of those albums are not available on CD and my record player is gathering dust in the garage. The 'Sings Hank Williams' is available second hand, so I might invest in that.

Thanks for your replies!

You can also try looking up the titles on those albums or listed on Praguefrank and look for them on YouTube.
