A friend of the family had this sitting in a closet for about 10 years. So when I visited this weekend they gave it to me. It does sound to bad with the Mullen. I know it's about a 1976 all original. Twin 12's, the reverb is a little weak but then again not looking a gift horse in the mouth.

Wish I had mine back Greg! I played a Sho-Bud Pro II and a tele through it with a homemade A/B box and a tape echoplex back in the 70's. One of the best all around sounds I ever had. I guess you always think they will keep making all the stuff you always sell and trade.  Drummers knew how to keep the stage volume down back then too because the PA was only 100 watts! Good old days gone by... |

I had the one with the 15" speaker. Abdo-lutely awesome for Steel and Tele! Then I got a Vegas and sold the Lab. Huge mistake! I hated that Vegas.

They don't sound like a modern solid state amp. More like a clean, powerful tube amp. Brad Sarno or someone explained that they used different transistors wired in a different way,

If I remember correctly, I believe they have a built in compressor also.

| FETs and the comp/limiter AFTER the preamp. And the "Multifilter" that enhanced the harmonic content. Great sounding amps. Strangely, none of the modeling systems has copied them. The L2 head had 200 watts. Would love to have one for steel. |

Had a couple of them.. Not bad, but in all honesty, I never saw what all the hoopla was about...To my ears they sounded solid state, and not "tubey" at all.. I sold both of them, and never missed them.. The compressor worked well, however I just didn't think they were any warmer than any other SS amp, but thats just what I heard, maybe mine weren't representative,,, My ancient 70's Peavey Musician, is much warmer to my ears.
Like many things it all in the eyes[or ears] of the beholder.
LS amps are very highly regarded by most so I defer to others. Mine were ok, but not really what I hoped they would be. bob

By the way Greg, not trying to run down your amp!,, Your friends are very gracious! Nothing like free gear.
For what you paid, I would be all over that amp and love it. Good luck with it... Maybe the L5 is better sounding... My LS amps were an L7 and an L9.

Been working it hard the last couple days dialing it in slowly. It does sound a little warmer than modern day SS amps and has a lot of options. It is real sensitive to knob positions. I don't know if it will ever replace my twin on stage but it is definitely worth pursuing and may find a permanent place in my practice chain, or as a back up.
