I was thinking about using karaoke tracks to practice playing the vocal melodies on steel. Does anyone else do this? Anyone know where I can find karaoke tracks? Thanks

I have. Try this site: http://www.karaoke-version.com/
You can actually make your own custom mixes with just the elements you want. Pretty cool!

Jeff, most of the songs that have steel on the original record, will already have a steel in the karaoke track. That can be a drag. I use this site where you can mix the track to remove certain tracks. So if the track has steel you can order it with steel removed. I think it's like $4 per song. You can customize it the way you want.

For instance if you click the mute icon next to lap steel, you can take out the steel part. Then you order it that way and you get an mp3 with the steel part removed.

On that site, once you buy the song you can create multiple versions without any extra charge - so you can make a full mix, no vocal, one with steel, one without, etc. Very useful for practice!

Jeff, will you be using a karaoke player to play them on, or just a standard CD player, or your computer? I can custom write tracks, put onscreen lead sheets, Nashville number system e.t.c. You can supply the music, right offline, or i can get it for you. No charge. If i can help just give a yell out.
