There's lots of great classic country in this video series and Mike Johnson is the extraordinary steel player. He tears it up on his break (around 1:50) on this one and by the look on his face he couldn't believe what he just played.

My three favorite living players are, Mike Johnson, Paul Franklin and Tommy White. In no particular order. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . No way can I limit it to three, and Lloyd Green would have to be in the mix if I did. _________________ Mark |

I think Sonny Garrish is one of the unsung heroes of steel guitar. A lot of times when I am listening to a country song and the steel work gets my attention, I look at the credits and it's Sonny Garrish.

Dang. Forgot Lloyd and Sonny. My 2 biggest influences when first learning. And Doug Jernigan. You just don't hear much about them anymore. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . If anyone can get ahold of a copy of the episode of "Larry's Country Diner" featuring Darryle Singletary doing A-11, as well as a tune or two by Joanie Johnson (Mike's wife), they are in for a treat. |
