I have a Gibson console grande double 8.
Would like to replace the 4 original legs with 4 screw in adjustable legs and sockets. Would appreciate any help or info.
Thanks Gene |

Hello Gene. Mine came with 4 adjustable legs which screw into sockets on the underside of the guitar. I had a second model which was slightly different. In that case, two of the legs on one end were screw-in sockets. There was a lever on the other end which locked those two legs in place.
I didn't look in Duchossoir's book "Gibson Electric Steel Guitars" before I started this note, but I'm sure you'll get some responses.

Congrats on having a super guitar. I have a 49-50 console grande. I replaced the uckie orignal legs. I made mine a 3 legged instead of 4 legs and works fine.
Make sure the angle of the legs are right before you screw the base to the guitar. Lee |

Thanks to everyone for your help.
Lee, could you tell me where you got your legs and sockets and how to install them?
Thanks very much. Gene |

You really can't use the routed in leg sockets on that Console Grande. You need the leg flanges that stick out from the body. I believe I got mine from Gary Sill. |

If the leg flanges are mounted on the outside of the cabinets, you can just use screws. I did some trimming on the flanges so they wouldn't stick out past the bottom of the cabinet. |

Another alternative is to purchase a Deluxe34 stand from fellow Forumite Mark Roeder with the correctly sized brackets. Just as sturdy, if not sturdier, than bottom mounted legs, and you would not be reducing the collector value of a relatively scarce instrument by modifying its originality.

I got my legs and flanges from a store in Nashville Tn
I dont think they sell them any more. But they are available thru many different sources.
I removed the old flanges, Made plugs to fill the void.
Then drilled new holes where I wanted the mount the new flanges.
Just turn the flanges till the angle is in the position you want, and screw the flange to the bottom of the guitar.
The 2 flanges on the right side of the guitar are 1 inch from the edge (edge where you plug in the cord) of the guitar and 3/8 inch from the front and back edge (measure to the edge of the flange, not to the center of the flange. The angel of the back leg (closest to you} is about 5 o"clock. I dont know if your going to put 3 or 4 legs so I wont say anything about the 1 leg on the left side of guitar... Hope this helps..Lee (if your on SKYPE let me know and maybe I can help you that way |

I have two of them, including one with special brackets to hold two six-string lap steels similar to this one:

I have multiple brackets to fit several different instruments, ranging from a prewar squareneck tri-cone, to a postwar Bakelite, to a modern 8-string RAM Speakeasy. No negatives as far as I'm concerned.
Lots of folks on this Forum use Deluxe34 lap steel stands. I've yet to read anything but positive reports from other users. |
