I started in '54 at 6 and that is the year I was born. My son just found a photo in '55 with my 6 string Oahu lap steel. Once I get a copy of the photo I will post it to see if anyone else on here was in the photo in Tulsa that year.

| Wally and Bob- Those certificates are really neat. I remember one of my early steel influences, Durward Potts of Odessa, TX showing me Dunigan class photos of his steel classes in Odessa in that time frame. Wally that's really cool for you and Jeremy, three generations dating back to Wally, Sr.'s diploma.. All the best to you Bob... I remember lots of talks with Durward about Jerry Byrd.. It was Byrd's way or no way! All the best RP |

| Hey Randall. It's great to hear from you. I sure miss all my friends in West Texas. I remember Mr. Potts. I used to go in his music store in Odessa when I was in high school. Bought a new Fender 400, a tweed Deluxe amp and a Fender volume/tone pedal from him in 1958. Traded in a mint T-8 custom steel. I had to have pedals. |

| Bob, my Dad took lessons here in Lubbock at Dunagan's Studio.. Thats so cool that you took the same course.. I hope things are good in Branson, I was working there 17 years ago.. Loved it... |

I just noticed who your instructor was, Al Petty! I love ol' Al, worked with him a lot on his midi steel setup... One of the smartest men I'v ever known... Sad what happened to him, I hope he's doing ok... |

Was that the same Potts of Potts' Music? He was a nice old grouch... tolerated us playing his guitars, even though he knew we couldn't afford them. Always looked forward to a visit to Potts'.

| Yes Stephen, Potts Music on N Grant in Odessa. I think Mr Potts came to Odessa as a Dunigan instructor and then opened the music store. I think he had one of the early Fender dealerships. Tom Morrell told me that he was quite resource for Fender amp schematics, etc. My parents scraped enough to purchase a Fender Mustang for me there. I visited him nearly every time I went to Odessa. Even after he closed out his inventory, he would be there playing lapsteel in Byrd style and frowning on my pedal playing, encouraging me to play no pedals. He was a good old guy, but came across pretty gruff. He was a walking history book of steel guitar. |
