Hey everyone,
I've been hibernating in NY and haven't posted anything in a long time. But I wanted to share this music I've been working on. It's with a really interesting group made up of oud, double bass, drums and lap steel. I can't say this for certain but I imagine we might be the only band in the world with that instrumentation.

| You had me with "oud". I love the middle eastern sounds and play a bit of oud and saz myself but haven't tried layering it with steel guitar much. Nice to see you are giving it a go! |

Hey thanks for all the kind words everyone!
Rick, I absolutely love my Laney amp. I use it all the time in tons of different contexts. It's definitely my main gigging amp. Also, on this recording was an old Gibson BR9 amp, which was placed less prominently in the video. As for effects, other than a volume pedal and an Ebow, which I'm not using on this track, I don't use any. I keep meaning to figure out a way to incorporate some, but it hasn't happened yet

Hey Stephen,
I am playing a Fouke steel. It is a variation on the Dan Walsh. It has an extra line in that I like to send a contact mic through that I stick on the body. But otherwise it is the standard Dan Walsh body.
The Laney is an LC 15R. Can't say enough nice things about it!

One of the things I really appreciate about this sort of ensemble is how you've managed to incorporate your lap steel when backing up the other members. Rather than just mimicking the chordal pattern the oud player is using, you're using swells and sustained chords.
I love the combination and look forward to hearing more from you guys.

These tracks are KILLER.
I really like 'Nevel' myself. Your lap steel solo's are very 'daring' and exciting, I get the same charge that I usually get from a Speedy West or Sol Hoopi piece.
Really wonderful, inspiring, and great to listen to. Please keep making more. |

ADDENDUM: Wowee! I just listened to it all, you guys are great. It doesn't sound forced or... sort of just fooling around, as some things do - stick a shakuhachi in a folk song, it's world music.  I was wondering if you've run across the band "Consider the Source?" They're barking up the same tree, although starting from more of a hard rock style. There is more great music being played right now than ever before. Are you heading towards a CD release? |

Hey David,
Thanks for the positive feedback! I haven't heard Consider the Source but I'll check them out. They look cool.
I'm not sure if an album is in the works or not. The group is lead by the oud player, Yoshie Fructher. So it's up to his vision. There's talk of an East Coast tour in the near future. I'll post something if that gets solidified.
