I saw Shot live with Johnny and Jack, Kitty Wells show when I was 14, way up in Cape Breton Nova Scotia.
I recall they all walked to the stage and Shot had his Dobro "slung" across his back so that the shiny resonator was a rear view only. Very Happy I never forgot that moment and later when he played with Johnny and Jack his sound from that Dobro captured me.
Shot tuned E major instead of the popular Bluegrass G tuning.
I thought it would be nice to go back to HIS sound for a change so I tuned up to E and decided on Poison Love and Ashes of Love medley to demo his style.
I send this out to Billie Sharpe and Lee Gilespie, two Skype buddies of mine.

I like Shot's style, tone and tuning the best. I have my 8 string dobro strung up with Shot's tuning but added a 6th note on the high end.

Sweet tone Roy. Love the work. I think you captured his sound as I recall it. Best wishes.

Sounds great Roy! I always loved Shot's playing. He was so kind to me when I was a young lad at 10 years old just starting out.
Thought you might enjoy a pic or 2 of my 1970 Sho-Bro. I play it nearly every day.

Thanks Tommy for chiming in and the nice pics of the Sho-Bro. His tuning as told to me was a follows:
High to Low: E--B--G#--E--B--G#--E LOW 056
For my clip above I dropped the G# on the 6th string and used the low E there. (My dobro is a 6 stringer)
I appreciate the interest and comments all.
Here is a pic of Shot in his workshop in Nashville on Broadway in 1979ish.

Tommy, good looking Sho Bros. I really love my 7 string. I just got my resonator cover gold plated again. Forgot how good it used to look.
