Anyone have any technical information on the Dekley Low Boy volume pedal. I have one that needs repair and I don't know how the string connects. If anyone could help, I would greatly appreciate it! Perhaps if someone has one and take a picture of the mechanism would help.

I don't have any pictures handy, but the string connects just like most other pot pedals. About halfway down this page are pictures showing how a ShoBud pedal is strung. Just do yours the same way.

Here are some pics of mine. I restrung it a couple of years ago.

Full volume position

You can see the screw that holds the other side of the string to the underside
of the pedal.

Is that a slot head screw with a compression spring under it to tension the string?

Thanks for the photos!! I am definitely missing that screw and spring. Anyone know where to buy replacement string? Seems to be coated?? Also, is that screw threaded as I don't see threads but it could be these old eyes!!
Thanks
Dale

You don't need special string, the braided stuff in chalk lines seems pretty similar.

Mason's twine (bricklayer twine) is a good choice. It's braided and readily available at lumberyards or places like Home Depot or Lowes or Menards. Very strong and about the right size, also easy to work with.

Jim Smith, thanks for the confirmation about the screw and spring. I had one of those pedals through the shop a few weeks ago but had never seen one before. It was missing several parts so I had to return it to the owner. There are some clever ideas in the manufacturing of those pedals!

Yeah I just used the mason braided line and singed the ends with a lighter so the line didn't fray. The hole where the tension screw goes into is larger and non threaded. The screw can move in and out if pushed on.

The screw was a 10-32, but a 10-24 would work too, as long as it doesn't drag in the hole. Any compression spring will work too, just find a stiff one that is smaller than the screw head, but will still move up and down over the threads.
