ON HOLD
Howdy folks,
Time to let go of my very nice Blanton. If you are not familiar with the genius mechanics of this guitar, please do a forum search as there are many threads on how it works. It is very simple, and the pedal action is superb.
This guitar is unusual in that it has three factory installed knee levers. Most of these models came with no knees, so this is a nice feature on this particular instrument.
Standard ABC pedals
LKL Raises E's
RKR Lowers E's
RKL Lowers 2 and 9
The chrome body is in almost flawless condition, as are the legs . It also has the original translucent green covered pickup which sounds great.
Comes with the original case in very good condition, three extra bell cranks, and the original fourth pedal.
It is a bitchen' guitar with tons of mojo, but alas, I have too many guitars at the moment, and something has to go. Also, I prefer a D-10, so this makes it a little easier to pass it on to the next owner.
I am asking $1000 plus shipping which I believe is a very fair price for this fully set up and ready to play tone machine.

What an unusual piece!
If I had an extra grand layin' around, I'd buy this just to keep it in Ventura County.

I have an old Blanton..Jerry said it was the 3rd one he built..It was beat all to hell when I got it..Bell cranks are worn out.. I micky moused them back together good enough to at least make them work..
This old honey sounds so sweet..
I'll tell ya, as worn as it is, $1000 won't get it from me..
Somebody will be in for a big time treat if they buy yours..

You tune AND time the pedals with those unique bellcranks. They are adjustable with the long screw...adjusts the pull rod for a shorter or longer throw. Unique as only Jerry could make them.

I'm thinking that you tune the pedals with the slotted head screws under the guitar. Anyone know for sure.

| You do indeed adjust the timing and the tuning with screws under the body. Pretty ingenious. Again, there a lot of threads on this forum. |

The 10 X 32 screw heads are knurled & turn easily with your fingers.
I made some extra bellcranks & used 10 X 24 screws.

I had one too. I was living in Goleta and sold it to Bill F in Santa Ynez. He still has it. A great guitar. Stayed in tune for months. Loved those tunable bellcranks.

I believe the BLANTON guitars were being built in the mid to latter 1960s. I saw my first one at a music store in 1969.

I bought almost exactly the same guitar from Blackie Taylor's Music in SoCal around 1970 or 71.. It had four floor pedals and no knee levers and all the pedal tuning was done under the guitar with the adjustments on the bell cranks... Blackie later added two "jury rigged" knee levers on the right but they just lowered the E strings on RKR and lowered the 2nd string to D on RKL... Being a guitar player I couldn't stand not having that low E string so after awhile we converted it to an eleven string by adding the low E. For a pickup we used an old Fender steel guitar pickup that was wide enough and just glued a couple of metal pieces across the top of the pickup spanning the pole pieces to "spread" the magnetism and it worked great... After a couple of years I traded it for a '58 Volkswagen.... I'd like to have the Blanton back now and return it to stock as it was a very nice guitar......JH in Va.
