About how many were built and what is the value of a used D-10 8 x 5 black mica model with GL e66 pickups?

Thanks, Dave

I've only seen one Bethel steel in person and was very nice and pedals felt real good. Didn't get to hook up to amp. There was a D-10 on forum a few years back for $3300 I think. Sure would have liked to had it but already had too many guitars at the time.

I used to have an SD10 Bethel in the same color scheme as the one Big Jim is playing in that clip. It was a great guitar, with beautiful looks AND tone! The pedal and knee lever action was second to none. I really miss having it.

Steve Sturm, Travis Tritt's former steel player played a white Bethel D-10 with a blue apron on the Opry after Waylon Jennings died. That very steel played two great solos-the first was on Travis's 1997 single, "Where Corn Don't Grow", which Waylon had recorded first, and Steve also played the Bethel while Travis sang Waylon's song, "I've Always Been Crazy"-he played a solo towards the end of the song after Travis's guitar solo. That Bethel guitar looked and sounded awesome!

I got to check out Terry's guitar when he was with Tillis in Reno years ago. Awesome guitar.

Now, that clip with Big Jim is awesome. I wish someone would tab that out. I never learned how to do all that chord stuff. I don't understand it, and never took the time to learn.

I told Bethel this was up here. Apparently his internet is still down. The Bethel's are great guitars and were probably ahead of their time. I'm not sure exactly how many were built, maybe Terry would have a better idea. They're just a little on the heavy side but they all play fantastic and have a very sweet tone.

Hey Guys and Gals it is I,TERRY BETHEL . Now about the Steel guitar , it was the best I ever played until I got the steel I am playing now. Which is the Mullen G2. I still have the proto-type which I played for about 15 years. It is called "blondie", it has a natural finish with aluminum necks and hard rock maple. It had 9 floor pedals and 9 knee pedals and George L Eon. pickups. About a year ago I decided to tear it down and re do the undercarriage. I got it back together but I haven't got it playing like I want it to so I am Playing my G2.
I don't know how many Bethel Steels were built as Dick built all of them except for the last 4 which I built. Kay, Dick's widow has the records of how many were built and when I go to NASHVILLE for christmas with my kids, grandkids, and great grand kids I am going to try and get Kay to let me have the records. Then we will all know. The maple body with cocoa bola necks and front apron is probably the best looking Steel guitar I have ever owned, however I recently sold it to Tyler Hall. A picture of that guitar is on terrybethelmusic.com I 'll be back and talk some more later. By the way MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR

Terry Bethel

Thanks for chiming in Terry. The one I'm looking at was built by Dick Miller and bought at a convention some years ago and is in northern California. It's real nice!

Sorry Mr. B... You mean this one? I wish I had a better picture of her, but pics just don't do it justice. It's a very special guitar to me, just like you're a special person to me. Love ya, TB.

Disregard the flute in the bottom picture.

Hi Dave, no real on subject help here, but a good story...I sat in the green room at the Phoenix Steel Guitar Show a few years ago with just Terry Bethel, me, and my daughter, as he worked up his version of "Over the Rainbow" on Blondie for the show. It was a great study for me to observe all the different chording approaches he took for the same passages of the song. He even asked for our opinions. I was interested in Bethel Guitars at the time and met with Dick and Terry later at the bar, but never actually ordered one. (couldn't afford it) Terry is a master musician and all around great guy. Good luck with your search, B
