Anybody ID this old speaker? It's out of my old 60's Silvertone 1482. 12" 8Ω.
I'm thinking of having it reconed as the paper has some breaks in it. I'm using a Celestion 90 in place of it, but would like to use the original if it's feasible to repair. It's also a lot lighter weight.
Any ideas for repairs, costs etc.?
Thanks JO.

If it sounds good,I wouldn't do a thing...you can always get shoo-goo at Walmart for the paper cone or do the paper towel/glue fix... couldn't find that EIA code anywhere..maybe someone else can determine the manufacturer.. _________________ https://www.reverbnation.com/bigredandtheresonators |

Thanks for looking Chris. Yeah, I repaired a couple places, but a couple more popped up. I think it got wet at some time and maybe the paper in the cone was compromised.
Best I recall, it's been a few years, it sounded OK at the time.
The celestion is a lot heavier and it's taking it's toll on the flimsy baffle board. |

Not sure if the baffle can be removed with screws like the old Fender amps, but I've replaced a few particleboard baffles with birch ply...Larry Rodgers in Naples,Fla. does great work and ages the grill cloth...mounting a heavy speaker like and EV SRO (25 lbs!) is no problem... _________________ https://www.reverbnation.com/bigredandtheresonators |

Wow! Thanks Jon. That's the one. I appreciate all the time spent locating this stuff for me. I'll mark these sites for future referral. Now I'll have a much better idea when deciding how to proceed. I'll re-install and check it out again.
Chris, I've forgotten for sure, but I believe changing the baffle has some issues and entails pulling out the whole grille/front of the amp and I just didn't do that. But I might in the future if I can be sure that I can restore it to original config.
Thanks again, fellows. |

i have a 1482 also and it has the same fisher speaker in it. most came with either jensen or fisher. i really like the one in my amp.
the tele forum has quite a bit of info on the 1482 including replacing the speaker and baffle as well as other possible mods. here is a link to the tdpri, tele forum.

Lots of helpful information here.
One of the downsides of using the Celestion is that the cabinet is so narrow that the mag hits the back. I had to space it out 3/4" in order to get the back on.
Plus, like said, the weight is hard on the baffle and it makes for imbalance. Just last night someone just lightly bumped it and it fell over which only worsened the baffle issue.
I'll patch the old Fisher, put it back in there and re-evaluate the situation. Thanks everybody. |

" if you want the ultimate tone (and are made of bux) I'd put a Celestion Blue in it"
Some years back, Guitar Player did a shootout of 12 inch speakers. Their conclusion was, "Well, there's the Celestion Blue, and then everything else." _________________ Dr. Z Surgical Steel amp, amazing!

No, I won't be installing a "blue". I have installed a speaker jack plate so if I need to move some serious air I can hit 'em with this hammer.
At this stage though, I'm just looking for a balance of adequate tools and ease of portability. |

Jerry... That will NEVER work. Everyone knows you need at least 8 speakers. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . *That*, my friends, is the Silvertone 150 cabinet, with solid-state amp that stows in the back. The amp's not much to write home about, but the speakers were stellar. It runs 5.33 ohms, same config as the Fender Super-Six, but with better (ceramic) speakers. A real sleeper. _________________ New FB Page: Lap Steel Licks And Stuff: https://www.facebook.com/groups/195394851800329 |
