Is there anybody out there who have tried this...
http://usa.yamaha.com/products/musical-instruments/guitars-basses/amps/thrh/thr100hd/
It's also available in a single channel version.
Is this the answer to heavy valve amps for Pedal Steel Players doubling on Guitar.
Having tried many so called modelling amps I am a bit suspicious but perhaps Yamaha have come up with a solution......or maybe not! |

The problem with modeling amps is that they are built for guitar. From Yamaha's add: "Both amps feature five custom voiced amp types with natural, organic overdrive." Probably not designed to deliver the clean headroom steel players need. I have a Fender Cyber Twin, a great modeling amp, but, IMHO, not a good steel amp. My Fender Twin delivers a much better tone, IMHO. Not saying this one won't work for steel. Steel is a small niche market. About 15,500 members on the forum. When you look at the numbers there is little reason for the majors to design and sell steel compatible amps. _________________ ShoBud Pro 1, 75 Tele, 85 Yamaha SA 2000, Fender Cybertwin, |

Many folks here favor the Roland Cube amps - those are modeling amps, yes?
Not everyone buys into the Cube series. I've played thru one several times, always works well for me, but I use it because it's there and I don't need to haul my own rig. |

I have a cube 80XL I like what it does for PSG.
However the real reason I use the Cube is its lightweight and doesn't break the bank.
If I had the cash for a Milkman or Telonics etc. I wouldn't be playing through the Cube.
It does a decent job for what it is. But there are definitely better amps for steel out there. _________________ Zum SD-12 Black, Zum SD-12 Burly Elm Several B-Bender Tele's and a lot of other gear I can't play.
