A friend and local steel teacher that I know has a Peavey Transformer 212 (Transtube series) Amplifier in his music room. I always loved the tone I got out of it especially the built in delay effect. I picked up a used one the other day and I am even more Impressed with the tonal option coming out of this solid state guitar amplifier. Do yourself a favor and pick one up. There are always a few on eBay under $300.00

Thanks for this info guys. If any steel player finds a Peavey model that is an "out of the norm" amplifier for steel but sounds good with steel, let us know as we may have one handy.

I have a Peavey Artist 240 with a Telonics TSNEO 12-4 that sounds great with steel, and has plenty of power.

Years ago I had a Peavey Mace. This is supposedly a bass amp but I used it years with steel. I have never had anything that I liked as well as that amp. It had a solid state front end with 4 6L6GB tubes as the final power section. There were no guitar players that could walk on that. One teeny tiny problem, it was HEAVY since it had two 12-inch old style black windows, a monstrous power transformer, and a huge output transformer but what fantastic sound with a steel..

Guess what? The Mace was an electric guitar amplifier that could probably pass as a bass amplifier because of its output wattage. However, it was a very powerful electric guitar amplifier.

Yes, it was heavy, but we all were younger back then...........................

If you are interested in the PFC4 footcontroller that was introduced the same time as the Transformer amplifier series, we still have them available from the Peavey factory parts department by calling toll free at 1-877-732-8391, ext.8106.

Robert,
I don't think The Mace was a bass amp. Mine had reverb
and was a tube/solid state combo. I don't think it had Black windows. I don't do windows! RP

I had the Mace, and the Duce. My Mace had Cast Frame 12" BW speakers back then. If memory serves me anywhere near right, the Black Widows didn't have any kind of markings on them. Not one sticker saying the ohms or anything that I could find sticker wise like the newer Black Widows. Loved that heavy monster. Very Happy

The Mace was not marketed as a bass amp, nor does the equalization circuit designed for bass. But, as a general statement, any amp "might" apply as a bass amp. But through years and years of R & D, manufacturers have learned what works best for what instruments.

But, no, the Mace is not a bass amp.
