Gary, Welcome to the Forum. Been a long time since I heard any mention of you. Don't know if you'll remember me, but we spoke a few times when you were playing for Shirley Jennings(?) at the Sail Inn. My band covered her gig at the Downtown Lounge in the mall, sometime back in the 70s. Last I remember you had replaced Ernie Hager at the Sail Inn. I kept waiting to see your name here on the Forum, but it never happened. I stopped reading it regularly since I am not playing out these days, and had you not been the last post on this thread, I might have missed you. I take it you are playing, or at least have need to get Lynn to work on an Emmons.
I left Corvallis 13 years ago and now live in Nashville. Although I never worked a whole lot here, it is really cool to be able to see the best collection of players in the world. Saw Tommy White last night at the Nashville Palace and then went across the parking lot and saw Rusty Danmyer. Took me 5 minutes to get home. Nice place to retire, at least for me. |

Bob, thanks so much for your hospitality and welcoming me to the jam last night. It was great to meet you, Larry, Josh and the rest of the great players. I've never seen so many beautiful steels in one place before, and I had forgotten how a beautiful a Sho Bud plays and sounds. I'll see you again when Lynn gets my Emmons done. Thanks again, it was a great night. |
It was good to see you attend, be sure to stop back if you are ever in town again. I did not take photos but it was a great group Tues. night. |

Hey Shorty, been a long time. Yes, I Went to work at the Sail Inn in '74 when Ernie left, and played there for a year. The six night gig got was what my playing needed, I was hanging on by my fingernails at first. We backed Billy Armstrong at the Casinos in Reno and on the county fair circuit for two summers. Great time. I played with a band called Free Spirit, then got a gig at OT Prices Music Hall in Santa Cruz with Joe Ritchie. I had gone back to school played four nights there. I bought a Sho Bud from Ernie in '73, and an Emmons new in '75 Left Santa Cruz in 82 and went back to guitar, playing in blues and R&B bands. Then family, work and life took over, didn't play out much for too long. I sold my Emmons in '98 like an idiot, and bought a Lashley in 2011 that I couldn't get comfortable on. Josh Gibson sold me a '76 PP that Lynn Stafford is going to restore. I'm living in Squaw Valley, near Truckee Ca, and have a old school country band here called Ridin' High. Great to hear from you, Nashville is the place. |

We have had some really great Jams lately, some of them have grown in size, and they're a lot of fun.
Here are a few photos from the past few weeks, I want to thank everyone for all the support and let's keep it going on Tuesday nights.
