Very Happy While watching Mollie B's Polka Party last Saturday,- it occurred to me that I don't think I ever heard anyone play a polka on the steel. Not counting the Beer Barrel Polka,- does anyone play some of those obscure "any title you can think of"
polkas?
Just curious,
Wally Oh Well

I remember Buck Owens and the Buckaroos recording one such. Here is a Youtube. Must've been Tom Brumley on steel.

A good friend of mine, Dave Knight went on the road in the upper Mid-West during the 1970s. He played a D-10 Sho-Bud guitar with Jimmy Jensen "The Swinging Swede" out of Alexandria, Mn. There may be some LPs with Dave On Steel Guitar still available. ??

Having spent some time in the beer halls in Germany, I came up with a Polka, "the Pullet Polka", (as in baby chicken and the eratic way they run around the barn yard) for my band the Stonecold Roosters.
The entire band chipped in on the arrangement. We had fun with it. We threw in as many melodic polka cliches right up to the point it became distasteful.
When I get a chance I'll post a link to sound cloud or you can get our CD on CD Baby titled "Back in the Bog"

Jouni Karvonen indeed that's the Pullet Polka. I didn't realize it was there.

The first group I played with was a polka band out of Hutchinson, MN. We played numerous polkas including: The Tick-Tock Polka, Beer Barrel Polka, Pennsylvania Polka, The Too Fat Polka and, of course, the Minnesota Polka.
Besides polkas, we also played Schottisches and Mazurkas. Very Happy

Al Dexter did "Guitar Polka" on Okay label decades ago.

Billy Robinson while with Red Foley on Decca label did "Tennessee Polka".

Jimmy Bryant and Speedy West did "Red Head Polka".

Christmas Polka, Jimmy Wakely

There's more of course.

My first wife had a polka band, but played standards and waltzes as well of course.
I liked the standards & played some in the band back then.
I can do without the polka stuff... Winking

Roger, do you know what ever happened to Dave? I took a couple of lessons from him at his home in Coon Rapids back in the late seventies when I was just learning how to play. He was a wonderful musician, and a really nice guy.

Don Helms can be heard playing the "Twin Guitar Polka" on the Hank Williams Mother's Best Recordings.

Anyone able to translate the Polish phrase at the end?
