Looking at a Fishman Loudbox for my steel playing. Is this a good choice?

I have a Loudbox Artist that I picked up for dobro. It's not my main amp but I have used it with a black box in front for steel on gigs in small rooms and use it regularly for practice. If you plan to use it for an acoustic guitar/dobro/mando or something too then it's a reasonable choice, perhaps not if for steel only. I don't really care for the tone without the black box, and for the price of a Loudbox and a black box combined there are a lot of other good options for a dedicated steel-only amp.
It can be tweaked to work/sound fine for steel though, back off the tweeter to smooth out the highs, the reverb is decent. It's very small and light, easy to schlep around. It only has an 8" speaker so it doesn't move a lot of air but can still get pretty loud and very clean. It has a built-in DI to get you into FOH if you need to be louder on a gig. |

I used mine one time, and couldn't wait for the end of the gig. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . Playing for 54 years and still counting. |

I have acoustic guitars as well as electric plus Dobro and Mandolin with pickups so I thought It would work for all since I play in a a small church.

For a compact amp that's not too expensive you can do far worse than a Roland 80XL. Is it the best steel amp out there? No, but it's tone is very acceptable, it's eminently portable and it's good with electric guitar as well.
I have three and I cover all my pro work with them. I paid around $350+ each. They're far better than a Loudbox (which I tried once). _________________ Roger Rettig: Emmons D10, B-bender Teles and Martins - and, at last, a Gibson Super 400!

My wife uses them for pedal harp.... I tried one with steel, and didn't like it at all. |

I owned a loudbox 100 for a few years. Used a Realtube preamp to get a decent steel tone. Through headphones the tone was great, through the speaker, much less, so I sold it. |
