Just wondering,,,is there a battery, besides the original battery,,that will work in a Profex 2.
In other words, could I find one at an electronics store somewhere ?
Seems like the mods are impossible to find anymore |

Wondering the same thing. I was wondering if you can still get a batteryless mod kit for the frofex 2's |

I just checked my ProFex the other day as I wanted to either replace the battery or consider the battery less mod as preventative maintenance. I also have the ProFexII midi controller. While I suppose obsolete by today's standards & technology, they still sound great!

Try your local Batteries Plus. https://www.batteriesplus.com They show a 3v80HP which looks like the # in Kevin's post.
Edit: Sorry, might be a dead link. I just typed in Varta battery in the search box and found that number a few pages down under replacement batteries, no info, no pics, so I don't know. Wouldn't hurt to check with them tho.
There's a bunch of hits on google too.

Is it possible to get the parts to do the batteryless mod at an electronics supplier? Surely Ken Fox had to get the parts somewhere. I would ask him, but if he is in retirement, or not doing this sort of thing anymore, I want to respect that and not bother him about it. Someone else must have some idea. |

That battery is the same as was used in PC motherboards years ago. Should be some available yet, or something that will work.
I did the no battery mod in a Transtube Fex I had. There was another guy that found a certain memory chip that would work, with an added resistor. That person quit selling them. I don't remember what the memory chip was as the Transtube Fex I had is long gone, or if they are even still available. |

Will the Profex mod kits work on the TTFex units also? |

The same battery-less memory chip works on a host of Peavey products:
Profex
Profex 2
Bassfex
Tubefex
Transtubefex
Transfex Pro
Session 1000
DPM1600
A list is on my website on the mods page |

Thanks for the info Ken. I wasn't sure of your status so I didn't want to bother you with a phone call. Thanks for popping in. I'll be ordering one from you. |

There's nothing that says the battery has to be mounted on the board, or where the battery has to be. How about just running wires to an external battery holder that holds two AA batteries? (They're always available) |

The Profex has a battery charging circuit for the NiCad. You would need to use a rechargeable battery. Battery voltage is also check for low battery situation as well. When the battery is removed and a new non-volatile memory is installed the battery check circuit is satisfied by the presence of the charging voltage. |

When changing the battery, do the, presets, get lost once the battery is removed & a new one installed ?
I imagine the only way to save the presets is with a Ram Card ? |

Read Ken's post a dozen or so down. He says you will lose your presets and gives info on how to save them to a card etc.
Well, on second read, this is after doing the batteryless mod. Don't know if just changing the battery. I've been able to change batteries in my other Boss and Roland units with the unit powered up, but maybe that's not advisable or even possible with the Peavey's as I believe they are soldered to the board. Maybe check with Ken or Mike Brown. |

Removing the battery will result in a loss of all presets |

Ken,,would removing the battery mean the loss of factory presets too ? |

The factory presets are stored on the chip with the version # sticker on it. Once the unit is reinitialized those settings are transferred to the memory chip |
