Had a gig last night where it was kind of dark when it was time to set up. This is the 3rd gig I have played with a Zoom MS-50G effects pedal. I inadvertently plugged the cord coming out of it to the volume pedal, in the wrong output jack (Right). I fought that whole first set with no success in achieving some high frequencies, even with the bass fully cut, and the treble and presence all the way up. Drove our sound guy nuts. Figured it out the next set and was well, at least with the equipment.

Does this mean the pedal is not true bypass? No effects were turned on.

Yeah... it's not True Bypass. TB pedals either have a big, clicky footswitch or a relay. If it was TB the Right output should have given you either nothing, or the same exact input (as you expected).

I'm reading that you used the Right output instead of the Left/Mono output? I'd think that it should be the same as the L/M out with 'bypass' on... unless it has some synthetic stereo thing going on... or perhaps the L/M output jack has switching so that when you engage it alone you get L+R. The Fender Vibratone crossover sends the mids to one side (the Vib side) and the bass/treble to the other side (the stock side).

That might not be a mistake Scott.

The best sound I heard from a band in recent times used their instrument amps unmiked and the PA was for vocals only.

It was a big airy open sound. .. not that punishing compression of transients from a couple of PA stacks.

I have 2 flashlights (different sizes) in my pak-a-seat, and one on my keyring. I'm just getting old.

Great advice from Dave. With a flashlight, you could have found your buffer in the pak-a-seat, plugged it in and never lost all of your highs.

Good point Chris. I thought I had it on the right jack. I have it mounted to my Stroboflip mounting bracket, so it's easier to see than it would be on the floor. I am sure it's probably just old age setting in.

Embarrasing events on stage:

Bad cord causing pops and drop outs thru a set (ouch!)
Broken goodrich volume pedal string, going to WIDE open!

These took a whole set to troubleshoot. And my favorite:

Forgot my bow. Not much you can do with a fiddle wo a bow.

Played a formal gig in black pants, white shirt, after sitting and playing an hour and a half I discovered my fly was open and my white shirt tail was poking out of the zipper the whole time I was playing.

Well, Murphy prevailed tonight... 5th (B) string broke. But I got one back on in the same song!

Gotha beat buddy. I was playing in tight black pants. Sat down to play and the crotch split wide open. With white undies, it was quite a scene. Luckily, the the wife's (girl singer) mother was there. We sent her to our house to pick me up another pair. Still played two sets that way.

Was playing a top country venue in Manhattan about 30 years ago when of all things, a wasp flew in the front door & landed right on the 12th fret of my C6 neck.(A wasp in Manhattan at NIGHT? unheard of!) Was trying to play & shoo wasp away at the same time; did not work out too well.

Another time (same venue) I had dropped a used up 9 volt battery onstage. Of course I couldn't find it, because it landed right under my A&B pedals, so when I went to press them, the battery kept them from going down & totally destroyed my solo.

I forgot, the night I broke the string, I dump the ENTIRE contents of my pac-a-seat onto the floor while packing up... note to self, latch it when finished packing it!

I put duct tape over the plug holes I don't use and put a dab of paint on the cables to match the holes I do use. It makes set up quick and less chance to plug something up wrong.

I've used multi colored electrical tape to mark things for years. But even that in low light or a rush can be missed and lead to problems. I mark preferred setting on my amps, even alternates with a different color if needed. I think now though, if I were playing out, I'd get the rubber or plastic plugs sold in hardware sections of Lowes or Home whatever, that fit the jacks, to plug never used holes. Hard to put a plug in a hole that is already plugged.

I feel your frustration and anyone that has played for any time at all, has had similar experiences.

Mark it or plug it and carry spares. Sh&% happens!

Dick, instead of marking my settings, I find the preferred setting, remove knobs and put them back on pointing to 12 o'clock. The only time that was a problem was when I had the amp in the shop and went straight to a gig, only to find the tech had cleaned the panel and put the knobs back on to sweep from 7 o'clock to 5. The phase shifter didn't sound right....

I like to mark my settings with a dab of liquid paper (the stuff you use to correct typos on documents)
If I ever need to remove it a little water takes it right off, and it's white so easy to see in a dark club.

I'd for gotten about that. Done that myself years back. If I remember correctly though, some amps you can do that, some not. Anymore, I mark everything. Amps, pedals, cables... Cause my memory is for crap! And my eyes don't see as good in low light like they once did, even with a flashlight... Point I guess is, do what works for you. In the end, your going to be the one in a pickle. Wink

This is a Zoom multi-effects pedal, and has an LCD display. Marking settings is not really possible, or necessary. I have never done this before and will probably never do it again.

On the subject of the wasp. I was doing a summer outside gig. There were a zillion bees flying around. I had a solo cup of beer on the ground next to me. I took a sip and felt a bee go into my mouth. The beer then shot out of my mouth, all over my guitar. The bad thing was, I had to walk a ways to get another beer.
