From the pictures it looks like you're printing the artwork onto the wood, probably using computer transfer paper, and then adding the fret positions afterwards, since they're above the artwork. Or are the frets on a separate transfer?
I guess I shouldn't be asking you to give away trade secrets on a public forum. |

On second thoughts, computer printers cannot print white, so you must be doing it a different way.
When making signs for my model railway, I often print onto transparency paper, they paint the back of the transparency with those colours that cannot be printed, such as gold/silver/white. |

What material are these fretboards made of? Can I provide you with images to use? Can you do reproductions of Emmons and Sho-Bud fretboards? |

You should specify how, and in what format, prospective customers should send you the artwork that they want incorporated in their fretboards.
Also, it would be good to know roughly what cost one is looking at, not exactly, but in the ballpark. I imagine that the cost of one compared to a hundred would be more, since the set-up is probably the main part of the cost. But are we looking at hundreds of dollars? Thousands? |

Are the fret positions overlaid over the picture, and are they infinitely variable for whatever string length is provided to you, or are the scale lengths to several fixed lengths? |

the size is what ever the scale of the guitar calls for... 1/8 inch thick....and yes they are over layed over the pics. And again the scale length are fixed to what ever scale that the guitar calls for.. Dan |

So, if you colored the frets transparent, that is, used no pigment there, you could illuminate them from underneath. In fact, I suspect that the entire artwork could be illuminated like a transparency if some sort of light source were incorporated underneath. This would also aid in playing the instrument in poorly-lit conditions.
(The reason I'm asking all these questions is to give prospective customers some idea of how they could use your services.) |
