My wife and I just returned from Elkins, West Virginia where we'd went for a few days to see a performance of the American Mountain Theater. It's a very good Branson type theater which has some fine pickers (No Steel Guitar though). We got there the day before the Thursday afternoon performance we were going to see and got a newspaper at the hotel which had an article which stated that the theater had been sold to a church....

It seems the church had been renting the theater for a few years for their services and they had made arrangements to purchase the building for 2.2 million dollars. It said that the theaters performances were going to continue as they would be renting the church for their shows... We went in the next afternoon to pick up our tickets and were told the shows both afternoon and nighttime had been cancelled. The lady at the booth told my wife that a bunch of their cast members had quit unexpectedly and they couldn't do the shows. There were a couple of tour busses loaded with old folks who'd came to see the shows and they were highly torked off...

I don't know what happened to the cast except maybe they didn't want to perform in a church as it might deter some of the material they'd usually perform and the name on the outside of the building wouldn't be that of a theater but a church.. Anyone out there know anything about this?...Thanks, JH in Va.

Maybe some (Christian? Non-Christian?) players objected. At any rate, the world is full of non-particular players, so I'd guess that the show will go on isf there's sufficient demand. (4$)

I just hate to see it fall by the wayside. My son in law and his wife live in Beverly, West Va. which is only six miles from Elkins so we've been going there every couple of months to visit them for the last year or so and have been attending the show(s) put on at the theater. I hope they can get something going again. Their website now lists all the shows as "sold out" but that's not true....JH in Va.
