Pictures are fuzzy...it might sell for less than it's worth.

I'd say it's a student model - no raised neck but looks genuine Emmons

I don't remember an Emmons with that type of pickup, tho, but I only owned one student model and then only for about a month.

Cool

Emmons made a lap steel with that pickup.

It's a wood grained "Black Rock" model...and will probably go for 2 to 3 times the current $377 figure. Winking

Prices are rising on these old 8-string student model Emmons guitars. They are much better instruments than the other student models of the era, and 8-string pedal steels are easier for a guitarist to get his head around than the 10-string E9th. Emmons didn't make a lot of these, but they have the name and the tone.

They were going for $600 a few years ago, but today I wouldn't be surprised to see one sell for $1000.

One of these just sold here a couple of weeks ago. It was listed for $1000: http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewtopic.php?p=2436287#2436287. There was another one that sat on Bay Area Craigslist forever at $1300 earlier this year, same setup w/ four pedals.

The pickup was made by DeArmond for Emmons. These were on the early Emmons student model pedal steels.

My first steel was a 1974 Emmons GS with three pedals and one knee, and that steel kinda reminded me of my Emmons. Mine is a ten string

I liked the one I had quite a bit. Nice open and angry sound. The spacing was great and got me thinking more and more about the pluses of non pedal. And although its not a fully raised neck it is raised off the body which helped the eyes focus. I plan on buying one again when the bankers loosen their grip.
