It baffles me why many on the Forum advertise all or most of the instruments they own in their profiles.
To me it just opens up the opportunity for thieves searching the net to take what they have.
I have more than my share of goodies, but I have no desire to share what I have in an open Forum.
Just some food for thought guys & gals.

Good one Richard but you might also add:
Unless a person is an Icon of PSG or they have a couple P/P's stashed away in the closet, why?

It's not always "bragging rights". I like seeing what others are using without having to send an email or PM every time I get curious. I can imagine that new players like seeing what others are using too.

I for one like seeing other folks setup. It makes this forum feel more personal to me. Also I don't think my signature makes anybody jealous, but I think it let's people know where I'm at or maybe what tone or limitations I'm working with. I've never thought of it as a danger or way for somebody to brag.
I found it interesting that a person baffled by this practice has a link in their signature to a site that completely breaks down their setup and has their address. (not meant to be hurtful or rude just that at some level it wasn't that big of a deal to you).
I read more than I post but am so glad this forum exists. I've always found the advise and insight extremely helpful. I truly believe the folks on this forum are top notch but it's probably good to remember that may not always be the case.

Oh! There's guns to steal too. More valuable to a thief than guitars.
I used to have a .sig, 'don't make me list all that crap'... funny how some .sigs take up 6" of screen, with one line per guitar etc.

I figure, if someone wants to steal my stuff, I'll help them carry it out and put in their car. And make sure they know that there are no returns.
Oops. I have to edit my sig. I just took a knee lever and a pedal off my guitar. I've also added an effect pedal.

Guys..
Like I said it was only a "food for thought" comment.
Yes, on my web site I have my basic rack setup.
No steels or other gear I may have. This is what I like about the Forum.
We can share our opinions and you can agree or no-one has to like them or they can add some very valuable comments of their own.
Such as the case here.

I list my steel guitars because people often ask me what brand I play. Also, I include links so that you can hear how they sound. I don't worry about burglars - there's always someone home at my house and our rural community doesn't have much crime.

I don't list my stuff, but I'll tell someone what I'm using if they ask. I don't see types of gear as really important, as long as what you have is decent. I also don't reveal my setups anymore, as most players would probably laugh or give negative comments about them. I like 'em, and that's all that's important. 
IMHO, how well you play is a lot more important than what you play.  |

That's for sure. We have a fella here named "Walt Wilson" (played at the Opry a lot back in the day) he plays a Maverick. Yes, an old cable-pull Maverick.
But man, you oughta hear this fella play. Outstanding !

I never heard of a cable-pull Maverick. Do such things exist? I used wire coat-hangers in mine.
