I'm thinking of the Hilton, but this may apply to other makes. There must be a downside to the low-profile version, or there would be no standard one. What is it? _________________ Make sleeping dogs tell the truth!

I think it's all about the length of the player's lower leg, relative to the distance of the bottom of the guitar from the floor. _________________ Clinesmith consoles D-8/6 5 pedal, D-8 3 pedal & A25 Frypan, Pettingill Teardrop, & P8 Deluxe. |

That's what I assumed, but in fact the difference in height between the pedal versions is quite small (less than half an inch) and easily covered by the leg adjustment on the PSG. I am neither tall nor short, so how do I choose which to go for?
The only thing I can think of is that the hinge is further to the rear on the low one, and taller people are likely to have larger feet. _________________ Make sleeping dogs tell the truth!

Ian, I will try to answer your question. The difference between my standard pedal, and my low profile pedal, is basically the hinge point. This makes the low profile pedal lower in the middle by 3/8 of an inch. Both pedals move up and down in front 1 3/4 inches. The hinge point of the low profile pedal is set 3/4 of an inch back further to the heel than my standard pedal. Because of this the action of the low profile pedal seems 2 times as fast as the standard pedal. Like I said, both pedals move up and down in front the same. The hinge point set back makes things happen quicker. OK-is that good or bad? The best answer is---You like what ever you get used to. I personally like the action of my standard pedal. Some people are "hung" up on getting the lowest pedal they can possily get. Here is a true story: A guy called me wanting to know if my Hilton low profile pedal was the lowest pedal on the market. I told him I thought it was. The guy just kept on talking about getting the absolute lowest pedal out there. I then told the guy this---"I can make you a pedal that is only 1/4 inch high. I will make it out of conductive foam rubber. The harder you push on the 1/4 inch foam rubber the more volume you will get." I then told the guy---"You do know if you only have a pedal that is 1/4 of an inch tall, it will only move up and down 1/4 of an inch?" The guy had a blank look in his eyes, then started to smile, and then I think the message started to soak in. |
