It's a long story - aren't they all - but here's the relevant part...
I bought this Clinesmith D-8 from a forumite who had barely played it. For a variety of long-storyish reasons, I have barely played it as well.
This gorgeous and gorgeous-sounding guitar and its case are in all respects as new. Not a spot on either.
Because it was, in essence, new when I bought it, I paid new price for it ($4000) and am asking the same for it now.
UNUSUALLY pretty wood here and it sounds like a Clinesmith ought to...
Glad to answer any questions and send any other pics you'd like to see. (These last two photos, being the best lit, give you the most realistic idea of the shade and amazing figuring of this guitar's body.) |

I have one of these in the T8 variant and another one that is a D8 with 6 pedals. These are the best two steels I have ever owned. Though I have other steels these two are the only ones I play anymore. Once you have played one of Todd's Clinesmith guitars it is very hard to play anything else.

I did not understand the answer above. Are those ric style horseshoes, Bigsby style horseshoes (like early Electars) or blade Bigsby pickups?

I wouldn't have thought this one would still be available. Todd's meticulous attention to historic detail is spot on. This is a chance to get a master crafted guitar without the long wait...besides, just look at that birdseye 😊

Rick, it might be a little matter of the $4000 part. And I'm not commenting about the fairness of the price, I have no problem with that.
I don't think the beauty of this instrument is lost on anyone here.
It's the part about my wife throwing all my stuff out on the front lawn and changing the locks on the door after she finds out that $4K is missing from the bank account and I bought another guitar. No doubt others are in the same boat.

Rick, you and I are very fortunate to own Clinesmith guitars. Owning and playing them you quickly realize just how great they are. I don't know about you but I play better on the Clinesmith and the tone is even more beautiful than the wood body of the guitar. Knowing what I know now I would sell all my non-pedals if that's what it took to own a Clinesmith. Once I started playing the Clinesmiths I stopped playing all the others anyway. I have heard other Clinesmith owners say the same thing. So what I am saying is if you have guitars you can sell in order to buy a Clinsmith you will never regret having done so. Do you agree Rick?

I have a Clinesmith Double 8 like this one, but with the aluminum necks, a Joaquin style 7 string lap and a 10-String lap and LOVE them. Todd does fantastic work!
I've always wanted to try one of these with the wood necks. |

Clinesmith are astonishing guitars. Easily the most beautiful and best sounding instrument I have ever owned or played. If anybody wants to check out my Clinesmith D10 console and can make it to Austin they are welcome.
